In a shocking turn of events nobody saw coming, Netflix made a star-studded blockbuster that’s actually good

Who would have thought?

It might be low-hanging fruit, but saying Netflix specializes in mediocre blockbusters also happens to be an entirely accurate statement, with the misses drastically outweighing the hits when it comes to quality. However, in a most welcome development that doesn’t happen anywhere near often enough, They Cloned Tyrone is an excellent movie.

Don’t take it from us, though, even if the sci-fi mystery can’t come recommended highly enough when it premieres one week from today, because the first batch of reviews to hit the internet have made it perfectly clear that this is one in-house exclusive that shouldn’t be watched intermittently when scrolling through your phone.

The trailers may have painted They Cloned Tyrone as an offbeat sci-fi comedy, and while it is admittedly very much that to a certain extent, it’s by no means the whole story. Jamie Foxx, John Boyega, and Teyonah Parris make for a wonderful central trio that possess chemistry for days, while the storyline itself has a great deal more to say on the current state of the world than you’d imagine.

In short; it might just be the finest Hollywood-backed, big budget, star-studded, and high concept feature-length exclusive to hit Netflix in a long time, and as much as that sounds like faint praise when there are a lot of boxes needing ticked to accomplish that status, it’s intended as a high compliment.

One day Netflix will master the art of consistency, but if we continue getting more gems like They Cloned Tyrone out of the endless dreck, then it’s a sacrifice we’d be willing to make.
