The best remixes are those that put an entirely unique spin on the original track that they’re sourcing while pulling off something listenable. Jenaux has accomplished as much and more with his remix of Tritonal’s “GAMMA GAMMA,” which stood out among the other productions in the track’s recent remix series.
Jenaux already had a strong relationship with the Austin, Texas-based duo having released his massive Pia Toscano collaboration, “Renegades,” on their Enhanced Recordings imprint earlier in the year. His “GAMMA GAMMA” remix takes an entirely different form, though. Slowed all the way down to 103 BPM, the primal vocal sample of the original is accompanied by Jenaux’s signature progressive house synth work to result in melodic downtempo that isn’t quite future bass but isn’t quite anything else, either.
When held up alongside, say, Ferry Corsten’s remix of “GAMMA GAMMA,” the track occurs to us as being an admirable piece of creative risk taking – especially for an up-and-comer like Jenaux, who is still in the process of building his fan base during his breakout year. It will be interesting to see whether he incorporates the sound exhibited in his remix into more of his productions, or if it will prove to have been an isolated experiment.
