New Detective Comics #1000 Photos Reveal First Look At The Arkham Knight

It seems like only yesterday that Action Comics #1000 hit stands, thus observing 80 years of Superman being in continuous publication. As it so happens, the other half of the World’s Finest duo, Batman, will get his turn in the spotlight when Detective Comics #1000 ships this coming spring.

By now, you’ve probably heard of one major reason you should read the milestone issue, and that’s how it’ll introduce a new version of the Arkham Knight to DC canon, one whom we can only assume isn’t Jason Todd. Still, the mystery man’s appearance is eerily similar to that of his video game counterpart, and can be viewed in the gallery below.

In addition to our first look at the newest thorn in the Dark Knight’s side, a bounty of covers can also be found in the accompanying slideshow. Chief among them is the standard wraparound supplied by the master himself, Jim Lee, though several others illustrated by top talents chronicle our hero’s journey throughout the decades. In case you’re wondering, those are Steve Rude, Bruce Timm, Michael Cho, Jim Steranko, Bernie Wrightson, Frank Miller, Tim Sale, Jock and Greg Capullo.

Of course, it’s the interior content that’ll leave the lasting impression. Personally, I’m thrilled to learn that Jason Fabok will provide a two-page spread depicting the current state of the Batman universe. As for which creative teams will backup Peter J. Tomasi and Doug Mahnke, those are as follows:

  • Kevin Smith and Jim Lee
  • Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev
  • Warren Ellis and Becky Cloonan
  • Paul Dini and Dustin Nguyen
  • Denny O’Neil and Steve Epting (a sequel to O’Neil’s 1976 DETECTIVE COMICS story “There’s No Hope in Crime Alley”)
  • Christopher Priest and Neal Adams
  • Geoff Johns and Kelley Jones
  • Tom King, Tony Daniel and Joëlle Jones
  • Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo
  • James Tynion IV and Alvaro Martinez

Detective Comics #1000 arrives in comics shops on March 27, 2019. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy – or several.
