Love Is In The Air In Spider-Man #12

When we say "love is in the air" in Spider-Man #12, we literally mean it. Seeing Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy echo the infamous kiss scene from Sam Raimi's 2002 film is enough to make "shipper's" dreams come true or, at the very least, cause us to hear the tune of an old soap opera organ.

When we say “love is in the air” in Spider-Man #12, we literally mean it. Seeing Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy echo the infamous kiss scene from Sam Raimi’s 2002 film is enough to make “shipper’s” dreams come true or, at the very least, cause us to hear the tune of an old soap opera organ.

Getting these two characters together may puzzle some, but you have to admit that the cover will cause many to do a double take and, perhaps, inspire an impulse buy or two. Ever since Miles Morales originally donned his distinctive costume in the pages of Ultimate Spider-Man, he’s built himself a healthy cult following. Not only has he already appeared in the animated series of the same name, but many are keeping their fingers crossed that a silver screen debut will soon be in the cards.

The same could be said for Spider-Gwen. Since arriving on the scene, she too had the benefit of being bestowed with a distinctive, awesome looking costume. Being someone who frequents conventions, I can attest to the fact that her inspiring legions of cosplayers was instantaneous.

Whether this pairing equals sales remains to be seen, but knowing Brian Michael Bendis is lending his writing talents will likely earn a vote of confidence since he’s synonymous with wallcrawlers at this point. Not only that, but Sara Pichelli’s dynamic artwork is also certainly a benefit.
