Though Wolverine may have technically returned to the Marvel Universe last fall, he’s decided to stick to the shadows for the most part, appearing in various “post-credits” scenes in select comic books along the way. But after recently learning that Logan will once again be headlining his own series before long, we naturally assumed it to be an ongoing title.
Hot on the heels of that revelation was the official announcement regarding The Return of Wolverine, a five-issue miniseries written by Charles Soule and illustrated by Steve McNiven set to arrive this fall. For all intents and purposes, this appears to be the title that the House of Ideas intended to set up for September.
Now, what added to the pageantry of said unveiling was that of confirmation on Wolverine being granted a new superpower. And in case you hadn’t heard, it turns out that the fan favorite mutant can now heat his adamantium claws to extreme temperatures, which you can plainly see in the preview image below.
Of course, applying such a change to an icon that’s been around for several decades is bound to create some controversy, something Soule wasn’t afraid to address while speaking with CBR:
“It’s been fun to see the reaction of the fans to that idea – that Logan’s claws might, under certain circumstances, get incredibly hot, a la metal on a blacksmith’s forge. Some people can’t wait to see how they come into the story, and others think it’s the dumbest idea ever (which I get). I mean, Logan’s claws can already cut through anything… why do they need to do this too? I guess we’ll all find out together.”
Additionally, it’s important to note that a doctored image has been floating around the internet, one of which includes some goofy dialogue that anyone familiar with Soule’s work would be able to tell wasn’t penned by him. Strangely funny as it may be, the panel has actually managed to dupe a fair amount of people, so it’s important we set the record straight.
