Marvel Primes Guardians Of The Galaxy And Defenders For Free Comic Book Day

Seeing as how DC unveiled their Free Comic Book Day offerings earlier today, we were anxiously waiting for Marvel to lay their cards on the table and, needless to say, they did not disappoint. In one fell swoop, readers will be introduced to the new status quo for both the Guardians of the Galaxy and The Defenders when they open a copy of All-New Guardians of the Galaxy FCBD #1.

Marvel SVP Sales & Marketing David Gabriel had this to say about the upcoming book:

“Each year, Free Comic Book Day is an amazing opportunity for publishers to showcase some of their incredible titles and stories. It’s an unparalleled opportunity to reach new fans and support our retail partners, so we’re thrilled to provide completely new content for this year’s offerings. These titles are the perfect opportunity for fans to jump into the Marvel Universe with both feet and we’re excited to unveil the contents of this year’s Silver title.”

Obviously serving as a lead-in to the recently announced All-New Guardians of the Galaxy, the main story presented in this comic unites Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon and Groot as they embark on a collision course with the Nova Corps. Brought to us by Gerry Duggan, Aaron Kuder and Ive Svorcina, we expect this to complement the new movie on its opening weekend rather nicely.

After taking that in, be sure to stick around for a 10-page tale that will serve as a prelude to the new Defenders book launching in June. Brian Michael Bendis, David Marquez and Justin Ponsor will present the very same lineup the upcoming Netflix series boasts – Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist – and is not to be missed.

All-New Guardians of the Galaxy FCBD #1 arrives in comic shops on Saturday, May 6.
