The Clone Conspiracy hasn’t finished yet, but Marvel has already announced that Ben Reilly: The Scarlet Spider is coming in April. As the latest addition to the Spider-Man family of titles, we don’t know a lot about what to expect as of right now, but something very interesting has been spotted on Greg Land’s variant cover for the first issue.

As you may recall, the response to Ben’s costume having a mouth of sorts in Mark Bagley’s designs wasn’t at all well-received, with fans taking to social media to ridicule the hero’s goofy looking smile. Others pointed out that it made him look a little too much like the villainous Spidercide, so is it possible that Marvel has taken all of that into account?

Well, while the mouth is still present on Bagley’s cover, it’s nowhere to be seen here. If the first issue is already completed, it’s possible that Marvel will now go in to remove it, though it’s just as likely that it all comes down to artistic license and that some will choose to incorporate it into their designs while others will not.

Whatever the answer may be, Ben’s return to the Marvel Universe is very exciting, especially as he’s currently going head to head with Spider-Man in The Clone Conspiracy (which is now nearing its end in what looks set to be a game-changing finale). It’s also worth noting that the overall design of the costume looks significantly better here.

Tell us, are you excited for the return of the Scarlet Spider? As always, share your thoughts with us in the comments section down below.
