Marvel Teases New Age Of Star Wars Comic Book Series

Marvel Comics is teasing The Age of Star Wars, which appears to be a new comic book series - or perhaps several - that'll encompass all three trilogies that make up the saga set in that galaxy far, far away. The press release that announced the exciting project didn't give anything else away, but it did come with some epic teaser art from Giuseppe Camuncoli and Elia Bonetti that captures just about every major character the franchise has ever had.

Marvel Comics is teasing The Age of Star Wars, which appears to be a new comic book series – or perhaps several – that’ll encompass all three trilogies that make up the saga set in that galaxy far, far away. The press release that announced the exciting project didn’t give anything else away, but it did come with some epic teaser art from Giuseppe Camuncoli and Elia Bonetti that captures just about every major character the franchise has ever had.

The announcement also arrived with the promise that all will be revealed at New York Comic-Con in just a few weeks’ time, with the press release saying:

“For more information, be sure to check out the Disney-Lucasfilm Publishing panel at New York Comic Con on Friday, October 5th at 3pm E.T. in Room 1A10!”

The artwork, meanwhile, gives us the three epochs of the Star Wars timeline an official title. The time of the Prequel Trilogy is now “The Age of Republic,” referencing the fact that this was the period in which the Galactic Republic had its last days before the collapse of democracy at the hands of the evil Emperor Palpatine. Note that the art features young Anakin, Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul, so expect some stories set during The Phantom Menace.

Next, the era of the brave Rebel Alliance trying – and eventually succeeding – to bring down the Empire is dubbed “The Age of Rebellion.” As the Original Trilogy is where most fans’ hearts lie, the majority of Marvel Star Wars comics have covered this period before, so it should be familiar territory for longtime readers. Not to mention that the inclusion of Lando, Jabba and Boba Fett tells us that we can expect some stories set around The Empire Strikes Back.

Finally, “The Age of Resistance” is the era of the Sequel Trilogy, covering the rise of the First Order from the ashes of the Empire, and likewise the formation of the Resistance echoing the Rebellion. It’s harder to tell which movie’s events will be the focus here, as the art features Finn in his Stormtrooper outfit and the masked Kylo Ren from The Force Awakens but also the more experienced Rey and Rose Tico from The Last Jedi.

Not much else is known aside from all that, but you can color us intrigued by the announcement and we certainly look forward to learning more about The Age of Star Wars at NYCC on October 5th.
