Is This Marvel’s New Avengers Lineup?

Even though we were promised no major crossover miniseries for at least 18 months after the conclusion of Secret Empire, that doesn’t mean there won’t be other storylines that’ll shake the Marvel Universe to its core. In fact, the House of Ideas kicked off 2018 with a bang, thanks in no small part to Avengers: No Surrender.

Now, if this seems confusing to you at all, know that the difference between No Surrender and something like, say, Civil War II or Secret Wars is that this particular arc won’t be told throughout the course of a limited series. Instead, it’s told in the pages of Avengers, and also includes the Uncanny Avengers and U.S.Avengers.

From that, you were probably able to deduce that those three unique teams – along with Voyager, “the greatest Avenger you’ve never heard of” – are joining forces for what may very well be a happening as significant as Avengers Disassembled. Not only that, but the story is currently unfolding on a weekly basis.

And since we just name-dropped Avengers Disassembled, one could say that today’s news has come at quite the opportune time. Admittedly, we’re going to have to wait to see how this arc wraps up before knowing all the specifics, but you have to admit that the following solicitation for Avengers #690 is bound to raise more than a few eyebrows:

The battle is over, and those left standing in the rubble have to find a way to move forward. As an era of the Avengers comes to a close, what will rise to take its place?

What’s more is that InHyuk Lee’s variant cover (seen above) proudly displays what may be the new Avengers lineup going forward. On it, we see Falcon, Sunspot, Rogue, Hulk, Wasp, Beast and Voyager standing tall. Granted, several of those mentioned have been known to be among Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the past, but we can’t help but wonder how readers will respond with Hulk being the only of the “major players,” as it were.

Avengers #690 arrives in comic shops this April.
