‘No prospects for reconciliation’: Former NBA star Dwight Howard’s 6-month marriage comes to a messy end

Split all marital assets.

Former NBA champion Dwight Howard and his wife Amber Rose Howard are splitting up after being married for only six months. The divorce papers were filed by Amber, who is also known as Amy Luciani in her rap career, at a Georgia courthouse on July 1.

According to People, the couple, who got married on January 11, 2025, are now facing legal proceedings that include a mutual restraining order. This order was first put in place on January 2, 2025, before their wedding, and was filed again in court one day after the divorce papers.

Court documents show that Amber stated their marriage is ‘irretrievably broken’ with ‘no prospects for reconciliation,’ echoing similar language used in other high-profile celebrity divorces. She has asked the court to split all marital assets and property equally between them. She is also seeking alimony from the former NBA star.

Recent events show Howard dealing with personal challenges

The divorce filing comes at a difficult time for Howard, who recently shared the tragic news about his dog’s death in a hit-and-run incident. He expressed his grief on Instagram, calling his late pet his “protector” and “baby,” and questioned how someone could be so heartless to harm an innocent animal.

Howard, who is 39 years old, has been keeping busy with his career in Ice Cube’s Big3 League, continuing his basketball career that included appearances alongside other NBA stars in entertainment projects, where he plays for the team L.A. Riot. However, his time in the league has not been without controversy. In June, he was ejected from the season opener after getting into a fight with former NBA player Lance Stephenson, which ended up spilling into the crowd at the Allstate Arena.

The eight-time NBA All-Star has been seen recently in Jamaica, where he is spending time during his league’s bye week. He shared photos of his vacation on Instagram on July 8, with games set to start again on July 13.

Howard’s career has taken various turns since winning an NBA championship with the Lakers in 2020. He played basketball in Taiwan from 2022 to May 2023 and has also appeared on television shows like Dancing with the Stars and Special Forces. The father of five is known for his strong defensive skills during his time in the NBA.
