A New York woman is dealing with a faulty outlet and an unexpected visit from firefighters, according to her TikTok post. It reportedly started when an outlet in her home began sparking and melting her cords, forcing her to call 911. The firefighters shut off her electricity because the wiring appeared to pose a serious fire hazard, as reported by The Nerd Stash.
They warned her the wiring needed urgent attention to stop a fire from spreading through the building. Things worsened when she tried to get her landlord to fix the wiring, saying she had contacted him several times. When she told him that firefighters had been on the scene, she claimed he hung up on her.
In a later text exchange with the woman, who posts as @temu.emmastone, he allegedly told her to leave the power off and wait until Monday to have the line checked. According to the user, she questioned whether he intended to fix the problem at all. However, according to the New York woman, he maintained that it was not his concern whether she remained without electricity until then.
Then the firefighters allegedly showed up at her window the next morning with an axe
The story took a strange turn the very next morning when firefighters reportedly knocked on the New York woman’s window and discussed what appeared to be a possible forced entry. She claimed to be alarmed when one of them approached carrying an axe. Apparently, the crew wanted to use her windows to train new recruits.
The New York woman later joked that her building supposedly became an unexpected training location after the previous night’s emergency response. The training may benefit new recruits. However, a firefighter appearing at a window with an axe would likely startle most tenants.
Firefighters have turned up in other viral videos recently, as a Texas man drew attention after his elevator stalled with firefighters inside. The crew had reportedly been on its way to free another stuck elevator. The New York woman’s encounter reportedly appears to have been calmer, with the crew simply asking to use her windows.
Many viewers were concerned about the potential fire hazard and frustrated by the landlord’s alleged response. One viewer recommended organizing tenants in the building to push for repairs, while others urged the New York woman to contact 311 and local representatives. Several viewers also tagged New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, hoping to draw attention to the situation.
The electrical hazard reportedly remains the main concern, as a melted outlet could put the whole building at risk. Landlords in the U.S. are generally expected to keep rentals habitable, a point another tenant reportedly learned only after finding cash inside his apartment walls. Following the landlord’s alleged timeline, she would be without power until Monday.
