‘Of course I’m gonna look different’: Sydney Sweeney finally addresses plastic surgery rumors, then reveals the accident that changed her face

She has had enough.

Sydney Sweeney is speaking up about rumors that she had plastic surgery. The 28-year-old actress talked about this topic during an interview with Allure magazine alongside her co-star Amanda Seyfried from their new movie The Housemaid. When beauty rumors came up in conversation, Sweeney said she wanted to address all of them directly.

According to Fox News, Sweeney made it clear that she has never had any cosmetic work done on her face. “I mean, I have never gotten work done. I am so scared of needles, you have no idea,” she explained. “You guys, you cannot compare a photo of me from when I was 12 to a photo of me at 26 with professional makeup and lighting. Of course, I’m gonna look different.”

Sweeney even gave proof that she hasn’t had surgery by pointing out a specific feature on her face. She said if she had cosmetic procedures, her face would look perfectly even, but it doesn’t. One of her eyelids opens slightly more than the other, creating an uneven appearance.

The wakeboarding accident left a permanent mark

This difference in her eyes didn’t come from genetics or natural aging. When she was younger, Sweeney had a serious wakeboarding accident that required 19 stitches near her eye. The scar from this accident pulls one eye slightly different from the other, which is why they don’t look the same. The actress has faced public scrutiny before regarding controversies that caught attention online.

Seyfried supported Sweeney during the conversation and told her she doesn’t need any cosmetic work right now. She mentioned that such treatments work better when people get older and joked about taking Sweeney with her in the future. Seyfried even joked about giving her medication to help with her needle fear.

While Sweeney hasn’t changed her face through surgery, she has transformed herself dramatically for acting roles. She shared that her biggest physical change was for the movie Christy, where she played real-life boxer Christy Martin. The role required serious commitment and major body transformation.

Sweeney had around three months to train and gain weight for the role, which she had to maintain from July through Thanksgiving during filming. She wore different wigs to show various periods of Martin’s life and used brown contact lenses.

The film tells Martin’s story as a professional boxer dealing with an abusive husband and coming to terms with being a lesbian. Fans recently spotted her in wedding attire on set while filming Euphoria. Sweeney and Seyfried were discussing this during promotion for The Housemaid, which hits theaters on December 19.
