The divided DCU fandom now resorts to calling out its own hypocrisy

James Gunn has barely revealed anything about 'Superman: Legacy,' but fans are already squabbling about it online.

Fandoms are fickle things, and those who love DC are no different. For years, many of them complained about films overstuffing heroes into plots, and a lot of those same people are now certain James Gunn is going to be the savior of the franchise — yet, his new Superman film will have plenty of cameos, according to a recent article from the Hollywood Reporter. This about-face has not been noted quietly by some critics online.

Gunn himself is pretty sure he can live up to all the hype, but that still doesn’t change that some people will just be unhappy regardless of what happens. The subject of team-ups has been a hot one for years in the DC fandom, with many thinking the very concept itself was nothing more than a cash grab. However, some were quick to point out that Gunn has already had a lot of success in crafting a DC film with crossover elements in Suicide Squad. He also directed Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise to great success, with the final film of the series only just recently released but receiving great reviews.

Yet, defenders of the Snyderverse can be a prickly bunch and were quick to point out that their favorite director’s work was given little chance by the DC studio heads. This wasn’t well-received by some who think they’re just whining for the sake of it.

When it comes down to it, we simply just don’t know enough about Superman: Legacy for anyone to have an opinion on it, but that won’t stop the internet from complaining.
