With a new trailer drumming up more hype for The Flash, DC fans seem to think director Andy Muschietti has a pretty good shot of making a sequel, but only as long as star Ezra Miller is nowhere near it.
Fans in the DC cinematic subreddit shared their thoughts on the latest trailer, as well as Michael Keaton’s return as Batman. The legendary actor hasn’t donned the cape and cowl in over 30 years but seeing him back in the Batcave has done its job in creating a buzz for the upcoming flick. In fact, every new trailer or teaser that drops is making the film look more and more awesome, so much so that fans are already getting their hopes up that Muschietti will somehow be brought back for a sequel.
Of course, that leads to another issue; Ezra Miller’s fall from grace and their atrocious behavior last year. It has taken a year of keeping Miller out of the spotlight for the studio to feel comfortable putting them in front of audiences again. Even so, fans haven’t forgotten what Miller has done, and most are more than happy to wave goodbye to the actor after this movie is done.

Miller has pleaded guilty to unlawful trespassing after a burglary in Vermont in August last year. They also were arrested and charged with harassment and disorderly conduct after an incident in Hawaii. That same month, Miller was arrested for throwing a chair that hit a woman in the head. There are many other accusations, although there haven’t been any charges for those as yet.

Due to all of the above, fans have even debated not seeing the current movie. Although most are still deciding to go and see it. If a sequel were to be made, there’s no way it would get support from the fan base now. While this film was mostly completed before Miller’s meltdown, Warner Bros. likely knows that there is little chance of convincing audiences to go and see them in a sequel after knowing what they’ve done.
Whether a sequel set in the same universe as this version of The Flash would work without its lead is up for debate. It would likely also have to be an Elseworlds film, as it doesn’t look like it would fit into James Gunn’s master plan for the first chapter of the new DCU.
A recast is likely the best option if WB were to give Muschietti the greenlight, but as luck would have it, a perfect replacement already exists in the form of Grant Gustin.
