U.S. President Donald Trump takes a question from a reporter during a news conference in the Roosevelt Room of the White House on January 21, 2025 in Washington, DC. ‘The hypocrisy couldn’t be more obvious’: Trump’s MAGA leaders ‘concerned for president’s life’ after former FBI director cooks up fake threat

The performative outrage is off the scale.

A classic MAGA hallmark is to cackle as they say the most horrific, violent, and disturbing things, then dramatically faint like a damsel in a romance novel the moment anyone uses that tactic against them. Today’s target for performative outrage is former FBI director and Trump hate figure James Comey, who posted an image on Instagram that has Trumpites in a tizzy.

Comey posted (and then deleted) an image showing seashells arranged to read “8647”, which MAGA interprets as a direct order to assassinate Donald Trump. That’s “86” as in “to remove, end usage, or take something out or away” and “47” as in 47th president.

Presumably glad to have something to talk about that isn’t Trump accepting a $400 million bribe from Qatar or the ongoing collapse of the economy, the usual parade of ghouls popped up across news media to demand he be imprisoned. Tulsi Gabbard claimed she was “concerned for the president’s life”:

The Trump-controlled FBI and DoJ have launched an investigation against Comey, doubtless overjoyed that they have a reason to crack down on the guy who investigated Trump. It has been pointed out that while they rushed to launch this investigation, there remains no investigation against the many other crimes committed by the Trump regime:

And, naturally, there are also the many, many times Trump and his cronies openly threatened violence against people who’ve incurred their displeasure:

MAGA despising Comey is somewhat ironic, as there’s an argument that he’s a big part of why Trump was elected in 2016. After all, his “October surprise”, in which he announced the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email was to be reopened, threw gasoline on a slow-burning fire that inarguably damaged her reputation going into the election.

All that said, MAGA is right to be concerned about Trump’s safety. After all, the guy had two shooters trying to put a bullet in him before the election, and things can’t have gotten much better since then. His economic chaos has ruined the livelihoods of thousands of people, he’s tearing families apart with his ICE goons, and is snatching more people’s futures away each day.

All of which means the White House better hope the Secret Service has upped its game since 2024, or the United States could be heading into absolute political bedlam like never before.
