‘Thunderbolts’ theorists think ‘Invincible’ might hold the key to uncovering Steven Yeun’s top-secret MCU role

It would be his second time playing a super strong, invulnerable hero with a blue and yellow suit.

With confirmation that Steven Yeun will be appearing in the MCU’s Thunderbolts movie, fans have begun speculating over whom the actor could play, and many think his character could be a hero very similar to Invincible in terms of abilities.

There is a split between fans regarding speculation over who The Walking Dead star will be playing. One-half of the fan base believes that Yeun will be a perfect fit to play Amadeus Cho, a Korean American who succeeds Bruce Banner as The Hulk. There are many reasons that fans suspect this, the main one being that the actor himself is also Korean American. However, there is an issue with this casting, being that Amadeus is supposed to be 19 which makes Yeun about 20 years too old for the part. Although to be fair, the actor looks nowhere near 40 and the MCU could just change Amadeus’ age if need be.

Regardless, fans have put a pin in that theory, opting for something more likely.

Looking further into the theories, it starts to make sense. Yeun has already played a similar character in his role in Invincible, an animated Amazon Prime series in which the actor provided his voice for the protagonist. Both characters have superhuman strength, insanely high durability to damage, and the ability to fly. Basically, he’s Marvel’s answer to DC’s Superman. Not only do Sentry and Invincible have similar powers, but they have similar personalities and to top it all off, they both don blue and yellow suits.

Fan response to the idea has been mostly positive, with many saying Yeun would fit the role perfectly and that he’d be able to get the little details about the character right (probably because he’s basically already played this character).

Whilst others found the casting decision to be a little unexpected, but still had to admit that he was a great choice.

There isn’t any confirmation on whether Yeun will actually be playing Sentry or not. However, it would definitely be an infinitely cooler role for the actor to sink his teeth into.

Thunderbolts is set for release on the July 26, 2024.
