First Nintendo Wii U Ad Fails To Mention That It Is A New Console

With the Wii U's North American November 18th release date right around the corner, Nintendo has officially launched the console's advertising campaign with a commercial filled to the brim with bright lights, annoying music, happy families, and Wii Remotes. Too bad it fails to make it clear that this is a new system and not a Wii add-on.

With the Wii U‘s November 18th release date right around the corner, Nintendo has officially launched the console’s advertising campaign with a commercial filled to the brim with bright lights, annoying music, happy families, and Wii Remotes. Too bad it fails to make it clear that this is a new system and not a Wii add-on.

Try and forget that you already know about the Wii U, and watch the trailer below from the perspective of someone who is seeing it for the first time. What you see is a new controller with a touchscreen, a New Super Mario Bros. game, tons of people playing with Wiimotes, and a few very brief shots of a console that looks like the Wii at a glance.

I wouldn’t blame anyone for seeing this and assuming that the Wii U is a new controller for the Wii, and never even have it cross their mind that this is an entirely different console.

It is hard to tell how big of a problem this will be in the long run, but it could have easily been avoided if Nintendo would have just mentioned the all-new Wii U is in fact a new console.
