Fans of The Vampire Diaries were devastated at the end of last season when Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning) departed the show. It’s a move that upset many but it seems as if there was a reason.

Canning has been cast as the lead in Primeval: New World, a Canadian spin-off series which just received the order for 13-episodes.

The show will follow “a specialized team of animal experts and scientists that investigates the appearance of temporal anomalies and battles both prehistoric and futuristic creatures.”

As of now there is no U.S. distributor for the show, but it is scheduled to air on the Canadian SPACE channel and there is still a good chance the series will be shown in the United States.

Along with Canning the show will star Niall Matter (Eureka), Miranda Frigon (Heartland) and Danny Rahim (Eastenders).
