Donald Trump seems incapable of flipping a coin like a normal person, baffles viewers at Army-Navy game again

We have questions.

There are certain things we all assume every adult human being can do. You know, like tying their shoes. Pouring a glass of water. Flipping a coin. Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America, would like you to reconsider that last one.

As is customary, Trump attended Saturday’s 126th Army-Navy football game in Baltimore, marking his sixth appearance at the historic game. And when the moment came for the ceremonial coin toss, Trump stepped up to midfield, accepted the coin from the referee, and proceeded to do something that we’re still trying to make sense of… unsuccessfully.

Taking the coin and placing it into the open palm of his right hand, the president heaved forward, sending it in a feeble arc towards the ground. And no, the coin did not flip. It did not rotate. It did not do the one thing a coin is supposed to do during a coin toss. It simply fell, while everyone looked on, completely baffled at what Trump was passing off as a coin toss.

“Clinically insane coin flip” might just be the phrase I was racking my brain to find. Thank you, internet.

What’s really getting people, though, isn’t the toss itself, it’s the pointing afterward. The coin plops onto the turf, and Trump gestures at it like, “There it is, folks!” Say what you will about the president, his comedic timing remains undefeated.

And here’s the real kicker. This isn’t Trump’s first offense, because he pulled the exact same move at the 2018 Army-Navy Game, prompting then-MSNBC host Chris Hayes to ask, “Why is everything with this president so weird and so awkward?” Seven years later, we’re still waiting for an answer.

People have even shared the clip, and the parallelism is uncanny.

I know the jokes practically write themselves, but let’s pause from roasting the president and cover the aftermath of this legendary toss. Army called tails, won the toss (God only knows how), but still lost the game 17-16 to Navy. The coin, we presume, is still in therapy.

In fairness, this is a man who’s bankrupted casinos, stared directly at a solar eclipse, and suggested injecting bleach. A coin flip was never going to go smoothly. So yes, there are certain things we assume every adult can do. Donald Trump, unfortunately, is 79 years old and batting zero for one on that list. That we know of.
