Donald Trump’s Russia/Ukraine ‘ceasefire’ in tatters after both sides resume massive strikes on energy infrastructure

Zelenskyy says Putin showing "ostentatious disrespect" towards United States.

Last week, Donald Trump proudly unveiled his “energy ceasefire” between Russia and Ukraine. Taking to Truth Social, he said: “Effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed. Do not break it!”

This was apparently news to Ukraine, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the Truth Social was the first he’d heard of any ceasefire. Even so, he said he’d gladly comply so long as Russia also respected its terms.

Zelenskyy said: “Ukraine wants peace. The question is whether Russia does. The Armed Forces of Ukraine have received all the appropriate orders. We are awaiting clear details of the dialogue between America and Russia – and we expect Putin to follow through on what President Trump said.”

“Disrespect toward the United States”

Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure continued without interruption, with them striking a power plant in Kharkiv soon after the ceasefire was announced. Further attacks from Russia followed over the coming days and now, with Trump’s “ceasefire” not having achieved its aim of ceasing any fire, Zelenskyy has confirmed that Ukraine has begun resuming strikes on Russian oil refineries.

He also underlined that Trump should consider the breaking of the ceasefire as disrespectful. On X, he said (per The Daily Beast): “Russia has never before shown such ostentatious disrespect toward the United States. Russia does not consider the American President’s statements strong”.

He said (per The Guardian), “The block [on attacking refineries] is out. We’re done” and described the confusion and the gap in United States intelligence as “dangerous.” As such, Moscow accused Ukraine of an attack against an oil refinery in the Ryazan region, while Ukraine says Russian explosive drones have targeted Kirovohrad, where regional governor Andriy Raikovych said, “The enemy deliberately hit critical infrastructure, transport enterprises, logistics facilities, and residential homes.”

Ukraine is also currently struggling with apparent restrictions on the Starlink and Starshield mobile terminals, with Zelenskyy addressing the Trump administration: “Ukraine needs steady support, above all in defending our skies. We need HONESTY from our partners about this war: It is important that everyone in America stand not with the aggressor, but with our efforts to protect lives, end this war, and guarantee security.”

Zelenskyy was also asked by Piers Morgan whether he feels betrayed by the Trump administration. He said yes, adding, “It’s a pity that we are losing, we are losing a strong partner.”
