‘If there were a Nobel Prize for bragging…’: Donald Trump boasts about his bullet-dodging skills at Charlie Kirk memorial

Donald Trump is his own greatest fan. Practically every speech he makes somehow loops back around to how great he is, how world leaders have told him he’s a genius, that doctors are astounded by his physical health, and so on (and so on…).

But, even by Trump standards, praising his own ability to dodge bullets while delivering the central speech at the Charlie Kirk memorial event (!) really takes the biscuit for self-centeredness and an inability to read the room.

With a smug grin on his face, Trump referenced his own attempted assassination last year, claiming that Charlie Kirk “couldn’t believe” how he dodged the bullet:

It goes without saying that boasting about your ability to dodge bullets while delivering commemorative remarks for a man who was sensationally assassinated in public in front of hundreds of people is… let’s go with “tone deaf”.

Or, as one reply on X neatly summarized things:

“He wants to be the bride at every wedding, the corpse at every funeral, the baby at every christening.”

It’s notable that despite the outpouring of grief from across the conservative spectrum at Kirk’s murder, Trump himself doesn’t seem too bothered. After all, when he was asked in the immediate aftermath how he was “holding up”, Trump casually said “very good!” then happily launched into a description of his new ballroom:

Now, I’m not going to go as far as saying Trump doesn’t care at all, but it’s clear Kirk’s death hasn’t exactly blown a hole in his world and left him inconsolably grieving. But what should we really expect from a man who buried his first wife on a golf course?
