‘I’m ashamed’: Most stereotypical Trump voter in Florida says president is ‘disgrace’ after Christ mockery

If Trump's lost this guy, he's in trouble.

Donald Trump may have finally gone too far by repeatedly insulting and mocking Jesus Christ.

Earlier this week, the president first angered Catholics by beefing with the pope, proceeded to horrify all denominations by posting an image of himself as Christ, made a bizarre excuse that this was actually showing him as a doctor, then went on to rub salt into the wound by posting yet another insulting image of Jesus.

It’s worth remembering that Trump doesn’t need to keep up the pretence of being a Christian anymore. Now that he’s in his second term, he does not need evangelical votes, whose support has already propelled an atheist idolator who sees himself as equal to Christ to the presidency. Good job, evangelicals! Really nailed that one…

But Trump’s war on Christ is fracturing and shrinking his base. For example, take this interview with a man in Bradenton, Florida who looks like the ultimate Trump voter stereotype. Mirrored Oakleys, check. Black wifebeater, check. White pick-up, check.

“I’m ashamed that he would actually do that”

Perhaps it’s not fair to judge by appearances, but if I saw this guy on the street and was asked to bet which way he voted in 2024, I’d put my life savings on him going for Trump. So, what does he think of Trump insulting Christ?

“It’s a disgrace. I’m very upset about that. I mean how egotistical can you possibly be? … I’m ashamed that he would actually do that. A man I voted for and trust.”

As usual, it must be emphasized that just because someone has belatedly realized that Trump is a lying, dangerous, blasphemous idiot, that doesn’t mean they’ve magically transformed into a Democrat.

I’m sure this person still holds the exact views they did that encouraged them to “trust” and vote for Trump in the first place, and they will, in the future, happily vote for whatever drooling psychopath the GOP puts on the ballot.

Even so, this collapse in confidence in Trump – even amongst his former die-hard supporters – is bad news for the MAGA project. Widespread disapproval of Trump will spill over into disapproval of higher-ups in his administration, harming their political futures. After all, if JD Vance tries for a presidential run, he can rightly be grilled on supporting Trump’s disastrous policies.

And then there’s the looming specter of the midterms. Once again, I doubt the guy in this video will be voting Democrat, but he may not vote Republican either. Cratering confidence in the Trump administration should see the MAGA turnout depressed in the midterms, with polling suggesting a resounding Democratic victory and control of both House and Senate.

That will hamstring the administration and make it much more difficult for Trump to rule by diktat. All that said, it’s a fool’s game to make too many concrete predictions for an election that’s still months away. After all, we’re still only weeks out from Trump threatening to erase a civilization with nuclear weapons, so right now there’s at least a chance that we won’t survive until voting day!

Either way, it seems Trump is determined to rub Christians’ noses in the humiliating mistake they made by electing him. In that alone, we have to support him.
