‘I’m obsessed with this’: JD Vance has a bonkers take on UFOs, spoiler alert it isn’t about extraterrestrial life

Welcome to the intersection of religion and science fiction!

Vice President JD Vance just shared that he is ‘obsessed’ with UFOs. I mean, that isn’t particularly surprising; a lot of us are. Where this gets absolutely crazy is his reasons for why. Now brace yourself, Vance thinks that what many of us think of as aliens might actually be something far more ancient and spooky: demons. This isn’t your typical government official discussing advanced propulsion systems, that’s for sure.

Vance recently opened up about his unique perspective during an interview with conservative commentator Benny Johnson. Johnson asked the vice president directly if he would release all the UFO files. Vance’s response was casual yet promising: “Ah, we’re workin’ on it.” He then asserted that he will “get to the bottom” of the matter.

According to Fox News, it turns out that when Vance first took office, he “was obsessed with the UFO files.” However, the demands of the job quickly pulled him into other pressing issues. Still, his personal fascination with the unexplained clearly hasn’t waned. Additionally, it looks like his background as a Catholic is what heavily influences his rather unconventional theory.

I don’t think you are ready for his theory

“I don’t think they’re aliens. I think they’re demons anyway,” Vance noted. When prompted by Johnson to elaborate on this random viewpoint, he dove deeper into his reasoning. Vance explained “Well, look, I, I think that celestial beings who fly around, who do weird things to people — I think that the desire to describe everything celestial” doesn’t automatically point to extraterrestrials for him.

He believes that the desire to label everything celestial as “aliens” overlooks a much older understanding. “Every great world religion, including Christianity, the one that I believe in, has understood that there are weird things out there, and there are things that are very difficult to explain,” he said. For Vance, when he hears about “extra-natural phenomenon,” his mind goes straight to a Christian understanding.

He continued, emphasizing that “there’s a lotta good out there, but there’s also some evil out there.” This perspective certainly adds a new perspective to the ongoing public discussion about unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) and UFOs. Although, personally, I am not sure I agree with any of it. Probably because of how Vance summarized his thoughts.

He believes that the conversations around Aliens and UFOs are a deflection. That on a theological level, extraterrestrials are one of “the devil’s great tricks is to convince people he never existed.” There are two problems here. First of… what, how do you even apply religion to this? Secondly, the conspiracies around UFOs are grounded in scientific speculation of habitable planets and civilizations that have developed interstellar flight.

Recently, after a hilarious interview where Obama indicated that there are files on aliens, the public collectively lost it. Everyone was so excited that Trump, keen for some brownie points,  announced on Truth Social that he would release the records. It just hasn’t happened yet. However, with so much official interest, I know we are likely to learn more. On a scientific and even conspiracy level, I’m pumped!
