Laura Loomer targeted Charlie Kirk mere days before his death, then tried to erase her declaration to safely point fingers at others

MAGA might be blind, the rest of America isn't.

Far-right activist Laura Loomer has come under fire for her contradictory statements about conservative commentator Charlie Kirk following his assassination at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. The controversy has highlighted the toxic nature of political discourse and the speed at which some figures pivot their messaging following tragic events.

Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed by a single gunshot to the neck while speaking at an outdoor campus event. The shooter fired from a rooftop and remains at large, with the FBI offering a $100,000 reward for information. Utah Governor Spencer Cox called the incident a “political assassination.”

However, just days before Kirk’s death, Loomer had launched a harsh attack against him on X. In a lengthy post, she accused Kirk of being a “political opportunist” who had “revealed himself” through his actions. She wrote that Kirk was behaving “like a charlatan, claiming to be pro-Trump one day while he stabs Trump in the back the next.” Loomer specifically criticized Kirk for hosting comedian Dave Smith at a conference, calling the decision “shameful” and expressing disgust with what she called his “nonstop flip flopping.”

The timeline creates powerful ammunition for those seeking to deflect blame

Following Kirk’s assassination, Loomer completely changed her tone and began using his death to launch attacks against Democrats and left-wing figures. She posted on X: “It’s time for the Trump administration to shut down, defund, & prosecute every single Leftist organization. If Charlie Kirk dies from his injuries, his life cannot be in vain. We must shut these lunatic leftists down.”

When Rep. Ilhan Omar appeared on journalist Mehdi Hasan’s show and made controversial comments about Kirk, Loomer seized the opportunity to escalate her rhetoric. She called Omar a “blood thirsty Muslim terrorist sympathizer” and declared that “Ilhan Omar needs to be removed from Congress.” This represents a stark contrast to her pre-assassination criticism of Kirk as someone who was unreliable and opportunistic.

The rapid transformation in Loomer’s messaging has not gone unnoticed by critics who point out the apparent hypocrisy. Social media users have shared screenshots of her earlier anti-Kirk posts (that were quickly deleted after Kirk’s death) alongside her newer statements defending his legacy. This pattern mirrors Laura Loomer’s broader influence within Trump’s circle as someone who has gained significant power despite holding no official government position.

The controversy has also drawn attention to the broader political climate surrounding Kirk’s death. Trump and other conservative figures have blamed the “radical left” for the assassination, while Democrats have condemned the violence. Omar and Hasan faced criticism for their comments about Kirk’s political positions during their interview, with some interpreting their remarks as celebrating his death.

Loomer’s ability to shape Trump administration policy from outside government has made her a controversial figure even within conservative circles. She has been credited with influencing the firing of numerous federal officials and continues to target those she views as insufficiently loyal to Trump. Her handling of the Kirk situation demonstrates how quickly political narratives can shift in the current environment.
