Steve Bannon’s controversial comments about President Trump seeking a third term are making the rounds again, grabbing headlines while everyone’s attention is pulled toward the ongoing Epstein Files depositions and the uneasy ceasefire with Iran. It’s a reminder of how the biggest warnings can get lost in the noise.
On X, account Republicans against Trump reshared a clip from MSNBC that showed Bannon, a pro-Trump podcaster and strategist, talking about his work on this. “We’re working on 5 or 6 different alternatives for how Trump could run again and be president.” He then confidently predicted a very specific outcome: “I continue to say that on the afternoon of January 20, 2029, Donald Trump is going to be president for his third term.”
This renewed interest in Bannon’s plan comes on the heels of statements made by long-time supporter, Billy Graham, at CPAC this year. He told the audience, “I love him [Donald Trump]. And we will only have one chance at this. We will never get another president like Donald Trump, never. That’s why it’s important we do everything that we can to try to get him reelected.”

Graham, who is the President and CEO of Cilly Graham Evangelistic Association, used his time on stage to really push for a third term for Trump, stating that “He stands not only for religious freedom, he stands up for Christians, like no president we’ve ever had.” This conversation about Trump’s third term was a massive topic last year.
In fact, Trump himself has floated the idea for years, publicly and privately joking about being “president for life.” Back in 2019, he started posting an edited version of a magazine cover on social media with imaginary campaign signs for 2024, 2028, 2032, and beyond.
In a January speech to House Republicans, he said, “I could have the most unbelievable four years. I guess I’m not allowed to run. … I’m not sure, is there a little something out there I’m not allowed to run? Let’s assume I was allowed to run. I could have.” He then added, “This is going to be a constitutional movement.”
In late 2025, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson illustrated administration backing for the idea when she said, “There has never been an Administration that has accomplished as much in less than one year than the Trump Administration. The American people would be lucky to have President Trump in office for even longer.”
Despite not working with the White House since 2017, Bannon holds considerable sway. He is often outspoken about Trump’s policies, recently stating that the ICE deployment to the airports is a test run for the midterms. When it comes to a third term, he has been a consistent voice on this topic.
In October 2025, he even indicated that he was part of the team that was working on “a plan” to bypass the 22nd Amendment, which clearly states that “no person shall be elected to the office of the president more than twice.”
