Marco Rubio once thought RFK Jr. was ‘crazy.’ But now his mind has changed …to some extent: ‘Now, I believe half your stuff!’

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said this week that he used to think Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was “crazy” before he actually met him. Rubio made the comment while talking about his friendship with Kennedy.

He shared the story while appearing with his wife, Jeanette Dousdebes Rubio, on Katie Miller’s podcast on Tuesday. Miller, who is married to top White House political adviser Stephen Miller, told the couple that every cabinet member she has interviewed has called Rubio “the funniest person” in President Donald Trump’s administration.

According to Mediaite, Rubio said many of his jokes come from “inside jokes” that “wouldn’t make sense” to people outside the administration. He then talked about one running joke he shares with Kennedy.

Rubio describes Kennedy as one of the best people he has met

Rubio said he is “a big Bobby Kennedy fan” and called him “one of the best people I’ve ever met.” He said Kennedy is “pure of heart” and that he often reminds Kennedy of what he used to think about him before they met. Kennedy is known for his own unfiltered public remarks, including a widely discussed speech about teenage sperm counts that drew attention during a public appearance.

Rubio explained the joke this way: “I always… every now and then I’ll tell Bobby, ‘Bobby, before I met you, I thought you were crazy because that’s what people would say about you.’ I said, ‘Now, I believe half your stuff!'”

Rubio said Kennedy finds the comment funny. He added, “I don’t think that’s, like, a big joke or anything, but I tell him that, and I think Bobby is one of the most fantastic people I’ve ever met.” Rubio also called Kennedy “such a good, good guy, who really is well-intentioned in everything he does, and really smart.”

Later in the podcast, Rubio talked about Kennedy’s diet, which he described as mostly “sauerkraut and meat.” Rubio joked that this kind of eating plan would not work for him. He said, “I’m not gonna travel the world with a cooler full of sauerkraut. It’s ridiculous!” He also said Kennedy travels with coolers full of sauerkraut.

Miller then asked Rubio if he sees himself as part of Kennedy’s “Make America Healthy Again” movement, known as MAHA. Rubio said he was “in favor of MAHA.” His wife, Jeanette, quickly disagreed and said her husband actually enjoys Pop-Tarts and fast food. Rubio has also faced tougher exchanges outside the podcast circuit, including a heated dispute with Senate Democrats over his schedule during a recent budget hearing.
