Renee Good’s family is taking the U.S. government to court over her fatal ICE shooting, but they are going after more than just one person

Renee is taking ICE to court.

Renee Good was a 37-year-old woman who was fatally shot in her car by the immigration agent, Jonathan Ross, in Minneapolis. The Department of Homeland Security claimed that Good was involved in an “act of domestic terrorism,” and that the shooting occurred in self-defense, according to The Guardian.

Her family, who voted for Trump and thought ICE would protect Americans, filed two lawsuits. In a press release presented by their lawyers, it was mentioned that ‘Renee’s death was not an accident. It was the predictable result of a coordinated campaign by senior officials in this administration to target Minnesotans of Somali or Hispanic origin and silence anyone who dared to raise their voice in protest.’

The lawsuit has become one of the major civil litigations filed against the Trump government. We can and must do better, and the Constitution must be the roadmap back to decency and the rule of law,” said Plaintiff Brent Ganger, Renee Good’s brother while holding the government accountable for the incident.

The family wants to be compensated

Becca Good, Renee’s partner, is also suing the government for emotional and physical damages she had to endure. She stood a few feet away from the vehicle as Good was fatally shot by the agent.

In a video showing the first public appearance of Becca, she can be heard saying, “Every morning [Renee] is my first thought. I think about how the kids are growing up without their mama, and how I’ll grow old without the love of my life. I think about how we should have had 40, 60 more years together. But I also think a lot about what she would have wanted after all of this.”

The attorneys also aim to receive compensation for the “immense suffering Renee endured in the final moments of her life and for the profound and permanent losses that her death has inflicted upon her family.” Along with the United States of America, the lawsuit named seven federal agents. Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, Corey R. Lewandowski, Thomas D. Homan, Todd Lyons, Gregory Bovino, and John Doe, for their role in Good’s killing.

As the debate gets heated around immigration, Ganger said, “We will not wait any longer. The time is absolutely now for accountability, for the deep damage done by ICE and others. We will not be quiet. We will not go away,” according to OPB.
