Mark Hamill once again reminds everyone he’s the real Jedi as he shares his stance on Donald Trump’s war

Where would we be without the opinions of Hollywood actors?

Like many of us, Mark Hamill is having some serious deja vu. A Republican president has cooked up some flimsy excuse to involve America in a war in the Middle East, is telling wild stories of secret weapon programmes we must stop immediately, and is now floating the prospect of a regime change that’ll 100% definitely for real no kidding result in peace, prosperity, and democracy. We promise!

Yup, it’s the early 2000s all over again! Longtime critic of Trump and all-time movie icon Hamill, is predictably, not here for this. Taking to BlueSky, he said:

“I hate when I go to bed early on a Saturday night and wake up Sunday morning only to discover we’ve gone to war in the Middle East without the consent of Congress.”

This is fair enough, though the most bog-standard “Hollywood liberal” response possible. Trump’s attack over the weekend was obscene and pointless – and would have been obscene and pointless with or without Congressional sign-off!

Mark, buddy, if your main objection is that Trump simply didn’t get the proper form filled out before launching his disastrous bombing strike on Iran, you might need to check your priorities.

Stick to wars a long, long time ago

And anyway, at this point, Hamill is standing on some pretty thin ice when it comes to commenting on American foreign policy. After all, back in 2023, Hamill proudly stated that “America stands with Israel. ALWAYS”:

Idiotic jingoism like this is precisely what got us to the point of Trump launching bunker-buster bombs into Iran and bringing the world to the edge of World War 3. Unquestioning support of Israel no matter how many civilians they obliterate, no matter how many neighboring countries they attack, and no matter how openly genocidal their politicians and leaders are, is the exact reason why Trump was so openly manipulated by Netanyahu into joining his war.

Hamill later walked back his “ALWAYS” stance slightly in 2024 by claiming “I fully support Gaza/Palestine” but, as many pointed out, that’s effectively a nothing statement that doesn’t mean anything. After all, if he’s now critical of Israel then have the guts to come out and say that!

Mark Hamill seems like a nice guy and I suppose his heart is in the right place. But when it comes to politics – specifically foreign policy – he should maybe keep his confused and ill-defined opinions to himself from now on.
