Mike Johnson shamelessly keeping U.S. Congress ‘hostage’ to appease Trump’s soon-to-erupt rage over his ‘Big Ugly Bill’

If it comes to it, he is ready to get their "submission" by force.

Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” has reached a key stage as it faces its final vote in the House. While the Democratic party has stood united against the ‘Big Ugly Bill,’ as Hakeem Jeffries has branded it, Republicans have been significantly less organized, with Speaker Mike Johnson stating he’ll keep the vote open “as long as it takes.”

A handful of Republican holdouts stalled proceedings last night, prompting President Trump to type out an angry rant on Truth Social where he asked, “What are the Republicans waiting for??? What are you trying to prove???” Meanwhile, House Speaker Mike Johnson was seemingly putting all his effort into getting those last few votes that were so dearly needed for the bill to be passed.

Trump and Johnson have to bully Republicans into submission

In response to the news that Johnson would keep the vote open “as long as it takes” people on X expressed concerns over the fact that the bill was seemingly being forced through. Popular account, @CalltoActivism wrote, “The U.S. Congress is officially being held hostage.”

Another person added that “Trump and Mike Johnson have to bully the Republican representatives voting no.” They also went on to claim that Johnson would “browbeat them into submission,” which seems to be exactly what happened.

The bill has proven to be controversial ever since it was first conceived. It cuts programs like Medicaid and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) while giving tax breaks and raising the national debt ceiling by $5 trillion. It’s really difficult to see how anyone could view this as anything but bad unless they’re a billionaire.

But of course, Johnson and Trump were able to beat the holdouts into submission eventually. As of this morning, the bill has the required support to go to a final vote. It’s likely many Republicans are voting in favor despite knowing it’s wrong, just look at Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who admitted the bill was not good enough but still gave her support for it.

The stark contrast to the Democrat party

While Republicans were busy infighting, minority leader Hakeem Jeffries’ party has put on a united front against the bill. Not a single Democratic representative has voted in favor, “EVERY. SINGLE. Democrat will vote HELL NO on this one big ugly bill.”

The contrast between how these two parties are led is truly incredible. While Trump and Johnson have to practically force certain party members into agreeing, it comes effortlessly to Jeffries.

While Johnson has since secured the votes needed to advance the bill, Jeffries is making good use of his “magic minute” speech to stall the vote showing once more how committed the opposition is to doing everything within their power to prevent this abysmal bill from being passed.

His filibustering speech is already starting to annoy Republicans like Marjorie Taylor Greene who are eager to vote on the bill already. His speech has been going on for three hours as Jeffries shares the stories of all the Americans that are going to be affected by the bill, something he’s been doing for months now.
