King Charles has no doubt been dreading the upcoming state visit of Donald Trump and it’s hard to blame him, after all, entertaining a 79-year-old man-child does not sound like fun. However, things are set to be much worse than originally thought as the U.K. public service broadcaster, Channel 4 is set to air a piece on Trump that will no doubt put the president in a foul mood.
Channel 4 is set to broadcast a compilation of more than 100 inaccurate statements made by Trump with each being dissected per The Guardian. The broadcast has been intentionally timed to coincide with Trump’s state visit to the U.K. which will no doubt cause some upset.
‘Trump v The Truth’ will start at 10 PM Wednesday night and is set to cover a great deal of lies and falsehoods pushed by the president. From him boasting that his administration “stopped $50m being sent to Gaza to buy condoms for Hamas” to his claims about the price of eggs, nothing is off limits and everything will be examined. The only issue is that Donald Trump has told so many lies and made so many inaccurate claims that the 100 or so covered likely don’t even scratch the surface.
Trump’s visit will be tough on Charles
But we must spare a thought for poor King Charles of course, who will be dealing with the likely distraught president after his ego has been bruised by the knowledge of the broadcast. We all know how much he dislikes being publicly criticized. So what better way to welcome him to the U.K. than by dedicating the Wednesday night schedule to debunking over 100 false statements he’s made in the past?
Trump is set to touch down in the U.K. on Tuesday night although he won’t be meeting with the King of England until Wednesday, the same day that the documentary is set to air. He’ll no doubt be even more unpleasant to be around than usual thanks to Channel 4 meaning Charles was probably right to dread this meeting.
It’s been a rather open secret that the King has not been looking forward to Trump’s visit ever since the kerfuffle with the invitation being given to the president on camera by the U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Trump’s antagonism towards Canada will also put the King in a tough spot as Charles is the head of state of the country, meaning he must disagree with the president’s recent threats regarding annexation.
Regardless, Donald Trump definitely has a soft spot for the royal family (except for Harry and Meghan of course), so perhaps it won’t be as bad as Charles is expecting. However, he’ll definitely be breathing a sigh of relief once Trump is on his way back to the U.S. come Thursday.
