Pentagon reportedly dismantling Texas missile defense system, sending it to Israel to keep them safe

Is a fresh attack on Iran brewing?

The Pentagon has reportedly decided that a Patriot missile defense system currently based in Texas should be packaged up and sent to Israel instead. Per Stars and Stripes and The Wall Street Journal, the aim is to “bolster Israel’s defenses.”

The report details that there are growing concerns that American and Israeli forces are on the cusp of launching a “large-scale” attack on Iran, which is theorized to be taking place after the Nov. 3 midterms vote. Stripes reports that US Central Command refused to give details on where the Patriot missile system would be sent, but an official added that it “regularly rotates and repositions U.S. forces and assets to support assigned missions.”

It’s also underlined that there are already multiple American missile defense systems now set up in the Middle East, including one already in Israel that was set up in October 2024, and two more that have been sent to Saudi Arabia and Qatar to protect critical oil and gas infrastructure.

Will Texans be exposed?

Stripes says this transfer is in line with other with indicators that an attack on Iran is imminent. They point to US troops being moved around Middle Eastern bases, aircraft carriers and amphibious ready groups heading to join the 16 Navy warships already in the area. Trump himself has also obliquely teased resuming the bombing, saying on Fox News Sunday Morning Futures, “do I make a deal with them or do I finish them off?”

Regardless, negotiations are underway, with Qatar attempting to get both sides to agree to a draft proposal to address their concerns. Iran’s position (per Al-Jazeera) is that if the US ends its blockade against Iranian ports and releases frozen assets, they’ll immediately stop fighting, re-open the Strait of Hormuz, and be open to negotiations on a nuclear weapons program.

But, striking a disconcerting note, Senator Chris Murphy said he’s seen Trump’s plan for Iran, which he described as “insane”: “Trump is reportedly planning to restart war with Iran after the election. Some of us have been briefed on the war plan. And while I cannot disclose any details, I can say this: the plan is insane. It will not achieve objectives and will set off a new cycle of escalation.”

And as for the missile defense system? Fortunately, Texans won’t theoretically be in any more danger than before. The continental United States is protected (per Congress) by missile interceptors located in Alaska and California, rather than from Patriots in Texas.
