MAGA Inc., the super PAC formed to support President Donald Trump’s reelection, has directed $10 million toward television and online ads backing Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton against Democrat James Talarico. A Saturday filing with the Federal Elections Commission recorded the purchase.
The Associated Press called the buy MAGA Inc.’s first significant step into the November midterms. Recent polls have given Talarico a healthy lead over Paxton. Trump endorsed Paxton earlier this year instead of the state’s sitting Republican senator, John Cornyn.
Trump has followed the Texas contest closely. In a podcast interview last week, he cautioned that the Republican Party and the country would be ruined if Texas turned blue. “I will be the last Republican president, and our country will live in hell!” he said.

Trump contended that a Democratic victory in Texas would start a chain of events that would make Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., into states. He maintained that Republicans would then have no path to winning national elections again. Sen.Cornyn has also rung the alarm bells for Trump, as he predicted the President would have two miserable years ahead.
Mediaite points out that Trump has stepped up his criticism of Talarico. He branded the Democrat a “weirdo” and “freako” who hates meat and is working to hide his most extreme ideas until the votes are counted. Trump said Talarico will “revert” to those earlier positions the moment he wins.
On Wednesday, Trump said, “They call him Talafreako – and he is, he’s sort of a freak.” He continued, “His whole thing’s a lie. If you look at his statements from two years ago, it was crazy what he was saying. And the one thing I learned about politicians, because I haven’t really been doing this that long, really, you know, guys have been doing it a lot longer than me, but whatever their initial statement, that’s where they belong, that’s where they go back to.”
Trump also joked about Paxton’s clothing. He said Paxton dresses poorly and that voters “might not love his look.” Trump still said Paxton is the better choice for Texas despite that appearance. Paxton’s public image has been a recurring issue, as when a caller asked him during a town hall why he cheated on his wife.
Speaking with reporters on Friday, Trump said he is “going to spend whatever amount of money [is]necessary” to help Republicans like Paxton win. MAGA Inc. reported $403.5 million on hand at the end of July.
