It sounds like something out of a cheesy horror movie. An evil scientist creates a destructive monster, cackling as it attacks his enemies. Then, once revenge has been wrought, the monster turns towards the scientist, lets out a pained bellow, and proceeds to annihilate its creator.
Cliche? Maybe, but it looks like there’s a good chance of this happening to Elon Musk very soon. With the Musk/Trump bromance now over, the two have turned on each other, granting us the entertaining sideshow of the President of the United States duking it out with the Richest Man in the World. Whoever wins, we lose!
But in this bout, Trump has the upper hand. Musk may have more money, but Trump is now completely above the law. If it came down to it, Trump could seize Musk’s assets, nationalize his companies, and (as he’s now openly hinting) deport him back to South Africa. But revenge is a dish best served cold, and it’s sounding like Trump is going to get some poetic justice by siccing DOGE on Musk:
REPORTER: "Are you going to deport Elon Musk?"

TRUMP: "We'll have to take a look. We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? The monster that might have to go back and eat Elon. Wouldn’t that be terrible? He gets a lot of subsidies."

Hoisted by his own petard
Yup, the DOGEfather, the man created DOGE to eliminate wasteful government spending, is about to get consumed by DOGE. In retrospect, DOGE might not have been such a smart idea, as if your company’s success relies on humungous government subsidies, you’ve just built an organization that can casually turn off that money tap.
Musk replied, “So tempting to escalate this. So, so tempting. But I will refrain for now.” It’s unclear exactly how he intends to “escalate” his fight with the one man in the world who can destroy him at the stroke of a pen. Perhaps he’ll make good on his promise to set up his “America Party” that’ll pour vast amounts of money into unseating politicians that Musk dislikes? Though, after the crushing humiliation Musk suffered in his last electoral intervention in Wisconsin, we doubt anyone in Washington is particularly worried.
Whatever else happens, it’s guaranteed to be entertaining. In an open Trump v Musk war, Trump is going to win. You just don’t pick a fight with a guy who commands the U.S. Military, has been given a free pass to commit crimes to the Supreme Court, and can snap his fingers and drain your bank accounts. So, while we may disagree with Trump about everything, we can only hope he squashes Musk like the annoying bug he is.
