There is a lot President Donald Trump has done and/or is accused of in his life that would earn a less powerful man a lifetime of condemnation (and jail time). Just days ago, that list extended to him mocking Pope Francis’ death and Catholics – who are mourning his passing with the flags in the Vatican still at half-mast. But evidently, as per Trump’s admission, deeply hurt Catholics lashing out at him is his definition of having “fun.”
Demonstrating his inability to respect anyone and a lack of social graces, the POTUS has been practically trolling the Pope’s death. It started with him showing shameless excitement for attending his funeral, as if it were some vacation or a party at Mar-a-Lago. This disrespect then extended to him turning up in a blue suit at the funeral when even Melania Trump observed the age-old custom of wearing black to a funeral. But that deference didn’t last long as the president and the First Lady were observed stepping over a sacred carpet near Pope Francis’ coffin — a space typically avoided by mourners.
Trump took his arrogance to another level recently when he posted an AI picture of himself dressed as a Pope in papal clothing and dragged the entire America into the disgusting suggestion when he had the official White House Twitter/X page re-post the image, which then gave his airheaded ambitions a whole new low…
… which he finally beat to dig himself a deeper hole.
Whether he is lost in his delusions or hopped on arrogance, he seems to have missed the reactions of Catholics who are outraged by his actions. “There is nothing clever or funny about this image, Mr. President,” said the X account for the New York State Catholic Conference. “We just buried our beloved Pope Francis and the cardinals are about to enter a solemn conclave to elect a new successor of St. Peter. Do not mock us.”
Prone to making contradicting statements, Trump first tried to sidestep the whole controversy by claiming he had “no idea” where the image came from and who put it on the internet. FYI, Trump posted the image and it is still up on his Truth Social page. He then proceeded to claim that Catholics “loved” his joke and it was actually “fake news” that blew the entire topic out of proportion.
When poked further about the White House reposting his unforgivable “jokes,” Trump did what he does best – dismiss the question and act as if expecting him to keep himself in check and at least pretend to respect those that deserve it is a grave insult to his status.
