17yo Atlanta teen claims his barber ruined his haircut on purpose. So he calls 911

A 17-year-old Twitch streamer from Atlanta learned an expensive lesson about misusing emergency services when he dialed 911 to report a problem that was not actually an emergency. According to Complex, the streamer, known as RaKai, placed the call while broadcasting live to his audience after visiting a barber he had not been to before. He believed the barber had intentionally ruined his haircut and thought contacting police could help him pursue legal action against the stylist. 

As seen in his livestream, RaKai is speaking with an officer. When the officer asked what he needed from emergency services, RaKai stated, “I wanna sue him,” referring to the barber. The initial conversation was brief, with the officer seemingly skeptical about the reason for the call and asking if RaKai truly needed police, firefighters, or medical assistance for his complaint.

The officer instructed RaKai to visit a courthouse if he wanted to pursue legal action and inquired about his age. After learning the streamer was a minor, the officer requested to speak with his parents. RaKai then appeared to end the call, but this decision would lead to further consequences that he had not anticipated.

Police called back to warn the streamer about the consequences of misusing emergency lines

While RaKai continued his livestream, the police department called him back to address his decision to hang up on emergency services. During this second conversation, an officer delivered a stern warning about the legal risks of misusing the 911 system. 

According to the officer, “You know you can get in trouble for calling 911 and hanging up on them?” The officer added, “I don’t want you to go to jail at 17 years old. You’re going to have a record that’s going to stay for the rest of your life. It’s not a good idea.” 

The warning about potential jail time appeared to alarm RaKai significantly. The severity of the officer’s words seemed to make clear to the streamer that his call was considered a violation of emergency services protocols. The officer explained that misusing 911 could result in serious legal consequences that would affect his future, not just immediately but over a long period of time.

RaKai responded to the warning with an apology. He said, “I’m so sorry, sir. Basically, my barber messed my cut up. I thought I could sue him if I called the cops, I don’t know. I really apologize, sir. Everything’s fine, sir.” His statement suggested he had genuinely believed emergency services could assist with a civil dispute between him and the barber.

The officer acknowledged his apology but made no guarantees about whether a police visit would still occur. The officer stated, “I’ll let the officers know that you’re apologizing. I don’t know if they’re still going to show up or not. But we do have your address since you gave it.” Misunderstandings about when to call police can lead to surprising outcomes, such as when a comedian was reported for helping someone in a Walmart parking lot. 

During earlier commentary on his stream, RaKai had expressed strong frustration with the haircut itself. He said, “I will never in my life cheat on my barber again. For some reason, my heart said, ‘Don’t cheat on him.’ But no, I decided to go cheat on him. And guess what f*****g happened, bro? Now my s**t bald, now my sh** slanted. How the f**k you f**k up that bad though, mud?” The fear of a bad haircut is a common anxiety, as seen when a man gets a haircut while his family and the internet cheer him on.

When the phone call with the police ended, RaKai’s reaction was immediate and dramatic. According to the video clips, he bolted from the room screaming, suggesting the reality of the situation and the officer’s warning about legal consequences had become clear to him.
