Atlanta man bought $180 seafood boil from Facebook. Then the bag opened: ‘My OCD could never’

Who's hungry?

As selling homemade food through Facebook Marketplace has become a common side hustle, a viral TikTok post showing an Atlanta seafood boil purchased online has fascinated viewers, spurring increased appetite in some, but also concern over hygiene, price, and presentation standards.

The TikTok video, shared by content creator Gabriel Rivera (@itsgabrielrivera), who regularly reviews Facebook Marketplace food finds, shows him purchasing what he says was a $180 seafood boil from a local Atlanta seller, @trapladytana. As he does in his posts, Rivera eats the meal in his car.

While the Facebook Marketplace trend allows small vendors to reach customers directly, Rivera’s post also raises ongoing questions about regulation, food safety, and pricing transparency.

Rivera begins the video meeting the seller, who hands him a heavy bag along with strawberry lemonade, a small dessert, and what he describes as a “little extra treat.” The seller tells him she added “special touches” to the order. Rivera thanks her before heading back to his car to open the meal.

Once inside the vehicle, he reacts immediately to the portion size and presentation. “Oh, I just spent $180 for a seafood boil off Facebook Marketplace. I don’t even know how I’m going to eat this,” he says in the clip.

When he opens the bag, he finds a fully assembled seafood boil featuring crab meat already removed from the shell, shrimp, sausage, corn, potatoes, eggs, butter sauce, and Old Bay seasoning. There’s also a dessert Rivera identifies as strawberry shortcake.

Rivera is visibly impressed, calling it “the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen” and adding, “That’s the best crab I’ve ever had.” One detail that resonated with viewers was the convenience factor. “I love that I don’t have to crack open the shell because I suck at that,” he says while eating.

Was $180 reasonable?

Seafood boils are typically priced based on weight, ingredient quality, and whether the seafood is pre-peeled or fully prepared. In restaurants, similar boils often range from about $25 to $60 per pound, depending on location and ingredients. A fully loaded boil with crab, shrimp, sausage, eggs, and sides can cost more, especially when labor and convenience are considered.

At $180, Rivera’s meal appears to be on the higher end for a single serving, but not necessarily outside the range for a large, heavily customized portion with premium crab and prepared shelling. The inclusion of drinks and dessert also suggests a bundled “home chef” experience rather than standard restaurant pricing.

Rivera’s video, viewed 24 million times, quickly circulated across TikTok and other platforms, where viewers reacted strongly to both the food and the setting. Some users focused on the informal dining experience inside a car. One comment read, “My OCD could never.” Another added, “Seafood boil off Facebook Marketplace is wild, seafood boil in your car is wild. Seafood boil off Facebook Marketplace in your car is WILD.”

Others expressed enthusiasm for the concept, with comments such as “In Atlanta??? YESSS LAWDDDD” and “Soooooo when’s the grand opening of her restaurant 😁😁.”
