Black woman finds her drink looking nothing like orange juice. She believes her roommate mixed bleach: ‘upcoming lawsuit’

A TikTok creator from Atlanta who posts under the name art.jawn shared a video showing a bottle of Simply Orange juice that looked murky and light brown instead of the usual bright orange color. She said her roommate had mixed bleach into the drink months earlier.

In the video, the woman sat in a car speaking directly to the camera while holding up the large plastic bottle. On-screen text read, “POV: My roommate put bleach in my orange juice.” She began by saying, “So if you’re wondering what bleach and orange juice looks like mixed together, I got you.”

She stated she has kept the bottle because of an “upcoming lawsuit” with her landlord. She claimed she is suing the landlord for harassment, unsafe conditions, and assault.

Holding up the bottle, she said, “This is the actual orange juice that my roommate had put bleach in, and it’s been shaken up a little bit, so everything is like kind of mixed together.” She added that when it settled, “it’s like more brown at the bottom, more like of a liquid up here, which is clearly the bleach.”

She explained, “But I have preserved this because I have an upcoming lawsuit with my landlord. I’m suing her for harassment and unsafe conditions and assault and everything like that. So I kept this so, you know, I have actual proof when I come into court, not just words.” Unsafe conditions can lead to legal action, as a New Mexico woman is considering a lawsuit after finding an object in a chicken tender. 

According to her account in the video, a judge in a previous eviction hearing “tried to say he couldn’t really handle the harassment, the assault. That had nothing to do with it.” She continued, “So that’s fine. I already had filed to sue her in court.” She stated, “So we’ll be discussing this little concoction that my roommate liked to fix up for me. Hopefully we can pass it around. The landlord can have a smell test, see everything that, you know, she allowed in her house.” She then rotated the bottle to show the nutrition facts label and said, “But yeah, this is what it looks like. It’s just disgusting.”

In the comments under the video, one viewer asked, “can you prove that she did this? that’s crazy a–f.” The creator replied, “She admitted it over the phone to her boyfriend while I was on the call & she didn’t know.” The advice to gather evidence before a lawsuit is a common concern in food safety disputes, as an Oregon woman sued after a Trader Joe’s OJ tasting left her hospitalized. 

Another commenter wrote, “Get it tested as well, don’t just bring it. Bringing it to court doesn’t prove it’s bleach, bringing orange juice with bleach doesn’t prove she did it. They can argue that you did it yourself for the lawsuit. You need video even texts admitting it’s her is admissible.”

A different viewer commented, “Call the police!!! Why are you on TikTok? That is so many crimes.” The creator responded, “Because the police were already CALLED.” When the viewer followed up by saying the officers should have the evidence and asking about arrests, the creator replied, “He didn’t even wanna touch it.”

The roommate accused of tampering with the orange juice did not come forward to address the allegations, and neither did the landlord. It was also not verified that the juice actually contained bleach.
