New Mexico woman bites into a chicken tender from Wingstop. What she finds inside has people suggesting ‘lawsuit’

This wasn't on the menu!

A New Mexico woman says she bit into a garlic parmesan chicken tender from Wingstop before noticing the inside appeared to be raw and uncooked. TikTok user Izzy Meyer shared the incident in a video, which tags a Wingstop location in Alamogordo, New Mexico.

In the clip, Meyer holds the chicken tender up to the camera, showing the contrast between the cooked outer layer and the pink, raw-looking interior. On-screen text in the video reads, “Y’all I just realized this is f***ing RAW.” In the caption, Meyer noted that she had only wanted her garlic parmesan chicken tenders, and also mentioned that the restaurant gave her a free brownie in response.

According to Brobible, the video has since gathered over 2.4 million views on TikTok. Many viewers reacted strongly in the comments, with several saying that a free brownie was not a sufficient response to serving undercooked chicken.

Food safety concerns and viewer reactions to Meyer’s Wingstop video

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, chicken must reach an internal temperature of 165°F to kill dangerous pathogens. Eating raw or undercooked chicken can lead to serious food poisoning, including illnesses caused by bacteria such as campylobacter.

Meyer is not the first person to allege that a fast food restaurant has not met safety standards, a man who ate a Chipotle chicken bowl was later told by doctors that his nervous system was about 24 hours away from complete shutdown.

Commenters on Meyer’s video were vocal about the potential health and legal consequences. One commenter wrote, “[Sticker] Not nutella nor mozzarella, this will give you salmonella!” Another user simply wrote, “Holy lawsuit,” while others encouraged her to take formal action against the restaurant.

Several viewers also claimed to have had similar experiences at Wingstop locations of their own. One commenter stated, “Oh no… my husbands gotten food poisoning twice from wingstop …”

Another viewer said that when they received a 10-piece order of raw chicken, staff at the restaurant allegedly told them that this happens all the time. Viral food safety scares involving restaurant and packaged food items have become increasingly common on social media, as seen when a Texas woman found unexpected material inside her Dave’s Killer Bread loaf, sparking millions of views and public concern.

According to RTR Law, customers who can show they became ill because a restaurant served them undercooked food may be able to seek legal compensation. As of the time of publishing, no official statement from Wingstop regarding this specific incident has been made public.
