Planning a wedding is supposed to be one of the most exciting times in your life, but for one bride, the process has turned into a total nightmare, leading her to cancel the wedding. TikToker Alyssa (@aalehman), a bride planning for a 2026 wedding, took to TikTok to share her frustrating experience with the Villa Terrace venue in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her video has already gained 5.4 million views and over 15k comments, highlighting just how relatable her anger is.
The situation started when Alyssa and her partner, Braden, fell in love with the venue. They were initially drawn in by a proposal that quoted a $3,000 minimum for food and beverage, which they considered a steal compared to other venues quoting them $30,000. Alyssa felt confident signing the contract, fully expecting the final costs to fluctuate slightly as they made their food selections. However, things took a turn for the worse after their menu tasting.
A week after the tasting, the couple received a new proposal that jumped to $26,000 for just 70 guests. Even after Braden created a tracker to cut the costs down to the bare minimum, they were only able to shave off $5,000. When you factor in taxes, gratuity, and various hidden fees, the couple realized they were looking at a total of $50,000 just for the venue and catering. This didn’t even account for other vendors or personal expenses like buying their first home.
That is an insane inflation
The most infuriating part for Alyssa is that this new, much higher price tag is attached to a proposal that was never signed. She explained that the event coordinator insisted she pay based on this new proposal, which would cost her an additional $7,000 compared to the original contract.
Alyssa is rightfully confused, asking, “How am I responsible for that additional amount of money? That doesn’t make sense to me.” Since they are canceling and not utilizing the space, she feels it is unfair to be held to a price increase for a document she hasn’t even agreed to yet.
The response from the online community has been overwhelming, with many users offering advice and support. KM Irish commented, “No signature, not responsible! You don’t pay for a quote! It’s a QUOTE! 👀” while Dchristo14 suggested, “As a wedding vendor, I’d suggest contacting a lawyer. I’m pretty sure they can’t force you to use certain caterers/vendors unless it’s written explicitly in the contract. They cannot change a contract.”
Other users were just as shocked by the pricing, with Kaitlyn Elie-Payne noting, “$370 a person… is Gordon Ramsey personally making this meal? do they slaughter and prep the meat during the ceremony?how did we get to this price?!”
If you’re currently in the thick of wedding planning, it’s worth looking at the red flags outlined by Here Comes The Guide to ensure you don’t end up in a similar spot. According to the site, ambiguous or incomplete contracts are a major warning sign. You should ensure every detail, including all fees and package inclusions, is documented before you sign anything.
If a vendor is giving you piecemeal pricing over email or refusing to put agreed-upon items in writing, it’s a red flag. Additionally, pay attention to communication styles. If a vendor is unresponsive or misses meetings early on, it often foreshadows poor service later. Finally, always trust your gut. If something feels off or if a vendor’s pricing and payment policies seem suspicious, don’t ignore that intuition.
Alyssa is now in the difficult position of canceling her entire event and finding a new, more affordable way to celebrate. She expressed her exhaustion, stating, “Being a bride and getting married is supposed to be such a fun experience, and, oh, my gosh, this just is the cherry on top, and it’s ruining everything.”
Over the length of a few videos, she recorded just how long she had to wait for a response. With how horrible everything went, she remained firm in her decision to walk away rather than go into debt. At the end, it was still a loss for them, but they worked out a way to still be happy. It’s a tough lesson, but one that serves as a reminder to be incredibly careful when reading the fine print of any wedding contract.

Then again, it is good that she found a problem early on, rather than being blindsided on her wedding day. While a cheaper option may not be able to accommodate the guest list they want, their goal to be married will still be met.
