‘Can’t even’: Florida Man spends $168 on birthday dinner at Disney Springs. He immediately has questions when the surprise arrives on empty plate

When you’ve spent $168 on a birthday dinner, you’d at least expect a slice of cake to go with the candle, but according to one TikTok video’s account, that’s apparently asking too much at Disney Springs.

TikTok user Maddie Brewster shared the moment in a clip posted on the social media platform, captioned: “When you spend $168 at Disney Springs for your birthday dinner and can’t even get a bite of cake.”

The footage shows a man blowing a candle that has been propped by itself on the plate without anything else, not even the least amount of decorative touches. A man’s voice, presumably the one filming, can be heard saying: “And here we go. I hope you’re hungry… for nothing.”

The woman seated beside the birthday boy is chuckling and in a state of total disbelief, but the comment section isn’t ready to see the funny side. Not at that price tag, at least. 

“Even a scoop of ice cream with a candle would be fine,” one person wrote.

 “This is so depressing,” added another. “Why would they do that?”

When one user asked for more details, and whether it was a diet thing, this is what Brewster wrote in response: “Nope! No dietary restrictions. We just said we were there to celebrate his birthday and this is what they brought out when they sang happy birthday.”

“I would’ve left it lit, given back to the waiter and said, ‘I’m full. I don’t think I can eat another candle,'” one person suggested.

“It’s gluten free, dairy free, nut free, vegan, and completely allergy free. What more could you want?” a comment read.

The meal took place at Frontera Cocina, the Rick Bayless restaurant in the Town Center section of Disney Springs.

What the missing dessert would have cost

The restaurant’s menu shows how small the gap was. Frontera Cocina’s least expensive desserts are soft serves listed at $7, and the kids’ menu offers Mexican vanilla soft serve for $3. Even at the adult price, a cup of ice cream would have added only about 4% to the $168 tab.

Frontera Cocina, a Rick Bayless restaurant, opened at Disney Springs in June 2016.Whether a bare candle is standard practice there is unclear, as Frontera Cocina has not publicly responded to the video.
