‘FAFSA just hit’ Students have funniest interaction at Starbucks drive-thru after order comes in at over $12k

Imagine paying this much for a Starbucks order.

Ordering food or beverages such as coffee can be costly nowadays thanks to a certain orange political figure who shall remain nameless. However, a group of students were shocked by the 10k bill they somehow managed to rack up at their local Starbucks.

The clip was posted to TikTok by “kuriaty” (Riah) who recorded herself and a group of friends at the Starbucks drive-thru. One of the friends, (the driver of the car), can be heard asking the cashier about the ridiculously high price of their order, which comes to $12,518.75. It’s hard to imagine there’s even that much worth of stock on the premises in the first place.

It quickly becomes apparent that the Starbucks cashier is pranking the group as he asks if they want it rounded up. The driver jokes back, “I really don’t have the extra 25 cents,” meanwhile, the others in the car can be heard laughing hysterically. At this point the total for the order changes to an even more ridiculous price: $31,268.75.

The cashier puts it back to what is presumably the actual price of $25, but the driver jokes telling the cashier that their FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) hit so they’re good for it and that he should put it back up. The cashier then raises the price even more, ballooning to $43,768.75, can’t forget that extra 75 cents.

Isn’t Starbucks supposed to be affordable?

I guess last year’s boycott hit them harder than it initially seemed. In all seriousness though this cashier clearly made the group’s night with his humorous antics. The coffeehouse chain certainly seems to have fallen on hard times as of late.

But it’s not just the group of friends who enjoyed the Starbucks cashier’s joke, the people of TikTok loved it too. The video currently has almost 2 million views on the app with over half a million likes. It’s nice to see both cashier and customer having a genuinely funny interaction (most of the time it seems more like they hate each other).

“HOW DID YOU EVEN GET THE WORKER IN ON THIS[?]” asked one person in the comments, “PLEASE PLEASE tell me y’all tipped him GOOD,” added another. A third joked, “Ohhhhh they got money money. Let me get some of that “FASFA” money.”

Hopefully they tipped him with some of that FAFSA money they spoke of (although maybe not the 43k he previously charged them). At least the joking around and over-inflated prices made the real price of $25 hurt a lot less in comparison. But don’t get me wrong, that’s still a pretty high price to pay for three drinks and a sandwich.
