Family’s grief made worse after their dog’s death as vet ‘accidentally clicked the wrong button’

A careless mistake that should have never happened.

Losing a pet is hard, for many a dog is a member of the family, so imagine how much more difficult that grief would be if your pet’s remains were lost forever thanks to the careless actions of staff at the vets. That’s exactly what one dog parent on TikTok is going through right now and they’ve chosen to share their heartbreak online.

A TikTok account by the name of Pey.k shared the shocking voice note they received from the vets explaining why they wouldn’t be able to receive their dog’s ashes. “Pey” sadly lost their dog named Deja and opted for a cremation. They had paid for a private cremation but were left waiting for the vet to get back to them.

After waiting a while they decided to contact the vet only to be given the worst news possible. Somehow, one of the employees at the vets “accidentally clicked the wrong button,” resulting in Deja being processed as a group cremation.

This presumably means that Deja was cremated along with other dogs. In another video, the grieving dog owner shares the whole voice note in which the man can be heard explaining that the remains were then sent to a memorial garden owned by the Abby Glenn company. The man assures Pey that it is a beautiful location and that they can contact the company and visit in order to get some “closure.”

What happened next?

Obviously, the entire experience was no doubt traumatic for the owners of Deja but there was sadly not a lot that could be done to rectify the situation. Many commenters on TikTok advised that the owner sue, “This phone call was extremely unprofessional on top of the misstake [sic].” Wrote one viewer. Others suggested that the error at least be reported as “they are a state licensed facility that essentially lost the remains you gave them.”

In the caption, Pey explained, “i’m not upset with anyone, i’m upset with how easy this could have been prevented.” Mistakes do happen, that doesn’t make the grief any easier, but some viewers warned others to not send hate to the man, “He sounds deeply saddened by this. His compassion is clear.” The man does sound genuinely remorseful in the voice note.

In the end, the vets did refund Pey in full for the price they paid for the cremation which is certainly the least they could do. Another commenter assured that Abby Glenn was a beautiful location, writing, “All my babies are buried there and it is extremely peaceful.” Hopefully they get the opportunity to visit Deja’s final resting place in the future.
