A parking worker allegedly decided he had reached his limit after dealing with an impolite driver outside a downtown hotel. A TikTok user, Nolan Meyer (@nolanrmeyer) who works as a valet attendant, shared the story in a video. He claimed that in over three years on the job, he had never once turned away a paying customer. That clean record apparently ended when an arriving guest made the costly choice to treat him poorly right at the front entrance.
It began the moment the driver pulled up to the property alongside his girlfriend. Meyer allegedly walked up to welcome the couple, see if they were checking in, and find out if they wanted to use the valet parking service. Instead of offering a basic greeting, the driver reportedly acted cold and asked if other parking lots were available nearby. “He’s like, ‘Are there any other options?’” Meyer claimed.
Meyer reportedly began pointing out other locations in the busy downtown area, but the driver allegedly cut him off mid-sentence and demanded valet service. The guest then headed straight inside toward the front desk while reportedly ignoring the attendant completely. Meyer hurried after him to ask for his name and phone number so he could properly log the car.
The guest got angry
The guest reportedly went against the basic social etiquettes and purportedly shouted his details while walking away, making it impossible for the worker to write them down in time. When Meyer caught up and politely asked for the information again, the customer apparently snapped at him to go away and became irritated that Meyer had not written down the details the first time.
At that point, Meyer said he told the man that he could park his own vehicle because he would no longer provide valet service. “What? You’re denying valet? What do you mean?” he allegedly questioned. The worker stood by his decision, telling him he would not be driving the vehicle.
Meyer then warned him that the vehicle could be towed if it remained where it was. The guest proceeded to check into the hotel, but according to the worker, he continued “staring” at him for the rest of the night.
As per NerdWallet reports, industry standards for tipping can be anywhere between 15% to 20%. On a $20 valet, it would be $3 for 15% or $4 for 20%. Most people usually hand over a $5 and call it a day.
