JetBlue traveler says his plane was leaving without him. Then, he overheard the staff: ‘she doesn’t care if I miss my flight’

An unexpected riff on getting left behind.

As an aviation and travel YouTuber and pilot, Noel Philips travels on planes a lot. So he has had a lot of different experiences with flights. However, even he was thrown for a loop when a JetBlue flight out of Orlando Airport came with a boarding pass error that took him back to the check-in desk, where he was told he would have to wait for a supervisor. Except he was still waiting when his flight out of Florida allegedly began boarding, and the staff at the desk didn’t seem to care.

He captured the situation on video and uploaded it to Instagram and YouTube, where it got over 545K views. In the post’s caption, he claimed, “My flight was already boarding when TSA sent me back to JetBlue to fix a problem with my boarding pass. Then I heard something I really wasn’t expecting…” The video began with the TSA officer and Noel at a desk as they were told to wait.

Confused about the problem. Noel asked, “Why is the boarding pass not working?” To which the TSA officer explained, “Well, your information just isn’t in the system.” Noel replied, “Got it. So JetBlue haven’t put it in.” The TSA officer noted that they just needed the airline to resubmit the data. As they waited, a female staff member is seen repeatedly insisting she couldn’t help him because she had other customers. He then alleged that he heard her say something that concerned him.

This was the first of Noel’s flights with JetBlue for the day

With the camera now facing him, Noel, who seemed a bit stressed out, claimed, “I’ve literally just heard this lady over here at the desk say she doesn’t care if I miss my flight, which is not amazing. I would hope that JetBlue would care if you miss your flight. I’ve got three flights on them today. I kind of need to make sure that they’re actually going to get me on board.”

The staff member’s alleged dismissal upset the community. One Instagram user commented, “Good on you for keeping your cool. That was horrible on the employee’s part. Saying she didn’t care if you missed your flight instead of actively trying to understand the situation and help find a solution was incredibly unprofessional. No passenger deserves to be treated that way.” On YouTube, a user echoed the sentiment: “Saying ‘go away, I have to help customers’ to a customer is crazy.”

In a follow-up post on Instagram, Noel recorded the moment the supervisor arrived and fixed the issue. However, when she couldn’t reprint the pass, she gave Noel some very specific advice: “Run for your life.” As he noted in the caption, he had “FOUR minutes until boarding closed.” Noel jogged through the terminal and somehow made it in time.

When he was seated, he told his viewers, “All righty, we made it on board JetBlue. Flipping heck, that was tight. No thanks to JetBlue themselves, of course, but TSA were incredibly helpful, and they escorted me past all the lines to make sure that I got it.”

While we can’t be certain what went wrong with his boarding pass, Noel’s experience does highlight the importance of making sure that a passenger’s travel documents are in order. It should also be noted that we only have Noel’s version of events, and only in the form of the clip he shared. His story cannot be verified.

According to HuffPost, airport experts claim that the most common mistake passengers make is failing to verify the information on their boarding pass. Dan Bubb, a former airline pilot and associate professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, explained that any mismatch will keep you from getting through security until you resolve it. Experts suggest checking your name spelling, flight details, and seat assignments immediately upon booking to avoid these last-minute headaches.

Furthermore, Yahoo noted that passenger error can also lead to boarding passes failing to scan correctly. If a scan goes wrong, it can lead to a traveler being marked as a no-show, which can unravel an entire itinerary and has often led to passengers getting stranded.

As the Yahoo report explains, it is essential to wait for a green light and an accepted tone when the passenger scans their own boarding pass before walking down the jet bridge. If you hear a buzz or see a red light, you should always ask the agent to confirm that the system shows you as boarded. A few seconds of verification at the gate can save you from a massive, expensive detour later on.

The outlets also suggest keeping a paper backup or screenshot of the digital boarding pass, just in case the phone dies or the app glitches.
