K9 handler was bullied as a teen, then she found out that the same woman was ‘terrorising’ her six-year-old son: ‘How miserable can a grown woman be’

"My bub is obviously upset, but he doesn't know about the extent of it.”

It is a parent’s worst nightmare to discover their child is being targeted, but one K9 handler recently found herself in a uniquely infuriating situation. After dealing with a childhood bully for years as a teen, she discovered that the same woman had seemed to set her sights on her six-year-old son. Sharing her side of the tale, she wrote that the situation escalated to the point where the bully allegedly spread rumors that the young boy had rabies because she works with dogs.

The Reddit user, u/oldmangeralt, whose r/advice story was later shared on r/BestofRedditorUpdates, explained that her son is a gentle soul who recently became friends with the bully’s son. Despite a gut feeling, she said she allowed the friendship to bloom, only to find out that the other woman was, according to her, orchestrating a campaign of harassment.

The mother claimed that the bully had moved back to their hometown after being fired from a job for similar behavior. Now, she was allegedly using a group chat to spread edited photos of the six-year-old and the family dogs to other parents. The mother told Reddit that the bully even went as far as photoshopping images to make it look like the child was in a hospital isolation room.

The redditor’s son was hurt and confused

The mother, a 28-year-old professional who has worked with dogs for a decade, noted that the situation was heartbreaking for her son. “My bub is obviously upset, but he doesn’t know about the extent of it. It’s just that his friends don’t want to play with him because they think he has a deadly, infectious disease,” she wrote in her original post.

She then asked for advice on what to do, writing, “Other than the obvious, which would be going to the school, I’d like to get back on her for all the years she’s spent terrorising me, and worst of all, terrorising my son now.”

Outside of advice, Reddit’s reaction was swift and fierce. One user commented, “How miserable can a grown woman be to attempt generational bullying on a SIX YEAR OLD. Glad the kid’s parents had his back. Doesn’t look too good for the bully’s kid.”

Bullying is a pervasive issue. According to John Hopkins Medicine, it affects up to 75% of children between kindergarten and 12th grade. The organization notes that 10–20% of these children face chronic bullying, which carries significant risks for their mental and physical health. In fact, a few months ago, Josiah Michael Dwinell committed suicide because of bullying. The evidence of his mental health raised questions about why the school never helped.

Experts like Melissa Faith, Ph.D., ABPP, suggest that parents should foster “best friendships” for their children, as having even one close friend can act as a buffer against the negative impacts of bullying. It is also crucial for parents to get involved with the school administration to ensure there is a clear, written plan to address any incidents. Interestingly, to combat the severe levels of bullying in the country, Singapore is allowing caning to create firm, meaningful consequences

The Redditor posted an update on July 1, 2026. In it, she shared that she took legal steps by filing a police report, which she said resulted in the bully sending a “half assed, scared s—less apology” via Messenger. She noted that she could not provide further details on the legal proceedings, but stated that she had taken other proactive steps to help her son.

Since school is out for the summer, the mother told Reddit that she organized a public demonstration in a local park to show exactly what her trained dogs do. She called the event a success, saying that some of his classmates had come too. She then said that she had another show planned for the upcoming summer festival where her son will participate.

The mother also told Reddit that her partner, a firefighter, got into a physical confrontation with the bully’s husband. “He came out of it in one piece, he’s fine, and the other dude is alive, but if I wasn’t a mother with another baby on the way + an adult woman, I would say it was entertaining af,” she shared. The family is also reportedly planning to enroll the son in Krav Maga, a move the mother believes will help build his confidence.

The online community couldn’t get over the bully’s actions. One user remarked, “Some people peaked in high school. I guess for her, bullying OP was the best time of her life. Peaking in elementary school is crazy s—.” Another summarized the situation well, stating, “Antagonizing a K-9 handler and a firefighter, especially after having been fired for the very thing, is a particular brand of self-destructive and reckless stupidity.”
