Man allegedly intimidates women at San Diego beach and tells them to move because 150 of his friends are coming. Says it’s ‘kind of our zone’

A video shared on TikTok appears to show a man asking a woman and her group to leave their spot at Windansea Beach in San Diego over the Fourth of July. The caption describes the exchange as a “turf war” at the beach. The on-screen text in the video states that the man “tried to intimidate” the group into moving because he wanted their spot.

The video shows a woman, whose TikTok bio suggests that her name is Hayley Roth, with long blonde hair, wearing a red and white checkered bikini top, seated under a large white canopy tent near the shoreline. An off-screen man is heard speaking to her and her group, though he does not appear on camera at any point in the clip.

According to the video, the man tells Hayley, “What’s going on? Just a heads up, this whole zone, there’s going to be like 150 people down here in like an hour and a half.” He went on to say, “We set up at this zone like every year, so just a warning if you guys don’t want to be surrounded by like a big party.”

Man cites yearly gathering as reason for request

Hayley responded by telling him, “We have some people coming too.” The man then repeated his request, saying, “Might want to move a little bit. Yeah, it’s kind of our zone. We do it every year” 

Hayley replied, “I mean, we’ve been here for a few hours and… I mean, there is like this spot open, so we didn’t really know that it was going to be 150 people”. The man then asked about a chair, saying, “There was a chair right here. I don’t know if you guys probably moved it a little bit.” The woman denied this, stating, “No, there was no chair. We like literally didn’t touch anything.”

The man concluded the exchange by telling her, “It might, it might be an inconvenience to you, just, just a heads up.” Hayley replied with a single word, “Okay,” and is shown looking down and away. The video ends shortly after this exchange. In another case, a Seattle woman confronted a man who kept taking her paid parking spot. 

It is not clear from the video whether the man or his group returned to the beach later that day, and it is not known whether the woman and her group ultimately moved from the spot.

The video has drawn a number of comments from viewers, some of whom questioned whether a chair could be used to hold a beach spot for a large group. One commenter wrote, “Good to know a chair can aid in the reserving of an area for 150 people.” Another commenter referenced the man’s claim to the area, writing, “‘Kind of our zone’ sir it’s public…” A similar viral video showed an entitled man blocking an 80-year-old woman from going upstairs at a train station.

Other commenters expressed support for the woman’s decision to stay in the spot. One person commented, “I would never leave that spot. I’ll raise my kids and grandkids in that exact spot. It’s my spot now.” Another wrote, “The way i would die of sun poisoning before leaving that spot.”

Windansea Beach is a public beach located in the La Jolla area of San Diego. The video does not identify either the man or the woman by name, and neither individual has been publicly identified in connection with the video as of this writing.
