Today’s social media news has been pretty wild following the launch of Threads, Meta’s competitor to Twitter. While Elon Musk continues to reply with laugh emojis to every post that mocks the creation of Threads, Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, went onto Twitter and threw shade at the tech billionaire. And in case you’re wondering, yes, Zuckerberg has a Twitter account. He’s just not active on it.

Hours after the launch of Threads, Zuckerberg went on to Twitter for the first time since 2012 to celebrate the successful launch of his latest social media platform. But rather than using words, the tech CEO shared an image of an iconic Spider-Man meme.

This Tweet divided the internet. On one hand, Threads is technically a Twitter clone, just without the hashtags and trending page. Also, critics claimed that Facebook “limited free speech,” something that Musk pushed when he took over Twitter. Not to mention, Facebook tried to purchase Twitter in 2008 according to TechCrunch. So, in a way, Zuckerberg used the meme wrong since he just copied another platform.

On the other hand, there is the current state of Twitter and how the site has implemented so many widely disliked changes, to the point where users are now seeking an alternative. As of writing, Zuckerberg has confirmed that over 10 million users had signed up for Threads. So for him to drop this meme as a way of trolling Musk is quite entertaining, and people ate it up.

This is just the beginning of the Musk vs Zuckerberg battle. Let’s not forget, the two agreed to duke it out in a cage match, and Musk proposed on Twitter that it should be held at the Colosseum in Rome. This Threads vs Twitter debate is just the two billionaires trash-talking each other before the main event.

The ball is in Musk’s court and its up to him if he wants to respond. If only he kept his old Instagram account.
