‘Never getting an Uber by myself again’: Woman traumatized after driver plays audio of women crying and screaming the whole journey

The Uber driver also took the woman on a longer route than necessary.

Over the years there have been countless stories involving Uber shared online, sometimes they can be somewhat lighthearted, or embarrassing even, but some of them are downright traumatizing. One woman on TikTok experienced the latter when she booked a ride on the app only to end up fearing for her own life as her driver was giving off real serial killer vibes.

“Itzyagirlsum,” a 19-year-old woman, shared a ten-second snippet recorded subtly while in the driver’s car. While the clip is short and doesn’t show much, in the background the audio of a woman crying can clearly be heard.

Guy was playing sounds of women screaming and crying and gunshots the whole journey. And took me a longer route. Then continued to stare at me through the wind mirror. Don’t even know how I would report this with me not getting full thing on video lol. #fyp #uber #scarytiktoks #warning #beware @Uber & Uber Eats UK

The original poster offers more context in the caption, explaining to viewers that the driver was “playing sounds of women screaming and crying and gunshots the whole journey.” What’s worse is the fact that he allegedly also took her along a longer route and continued to stare at her through the mirror.

What was the Uber driver thinking?

This is no doubt one of the worst imaginable situations to find oneself in when getting an Uber and it makes you wonder what was going through that driver’s head. Ultimately the woman managed to escape the situation unscathed although she was no doubt very shaken up. She admits that she didn’t know how to go about reporting the terrifying situation to Uber as she only managed to get a short video.

The comments, unfortunately, were not all that helpful. Some asked why the woman didn’t jump out of the moving car to escape the situation. Others said she shouldn’t have even gotten in the car alone. Victim blaming all around it seems. Thankfully some did come forward with some useful advice, “Uber has the support button where you can share sound and call the emergency number, never forget that!” one helpful viewer recommended.

Uber also recently announced a new feature that would allow women to decline male drivers, and while some males may take offense at that, situations like this are exactly why the option was created in the first place. While this is a great step forward on behalf of Uber, the company still has a long way to go.

A “helpful” comment was also made by the official Uber TikTok account calling the whole ordeal “concerning” and claimed that a “specialised team” would be investigating the matter further. The original poster later followed with an update video claiming that the issue was never resolved. While Uber rang her all they were able to promise was that she would never get the same driver again. They were not able to confirm whether or not he had been fired for his alarming behavior.
