North Carolina woman goes to her hispanic date’s company party. She catches everyone talking behind her in spanish and flips the script: ‘crazy’

Not the date night she expected.

A North Carolina woman named Christi shared details of what she called her worst first date after moving to Charlotte. The story comes from a TikTok video she posted under the handle @notchristiraia. In the video, she explained that she was recently asked about her worst dating experience and decided to describe the first date she went on in the city.

She said the date took place in 2022, around Christmas time. Christi stated that she had been talking to a man on a dating app for a few weeks. She described him as seeming cool even though he was not her usual type, noting that she does not typically go for Hispanic or Latino men. She said she decided to try something different after moving to a new city. According to her account, the man invited her to a Christmas party, and she accepted.

Christi described herself as Puerto Rican and Argentinian but very white-passing and blonde. She said that when they arrived at the party she was the only white-passing person there and the only blonde. She explained that everyone else spoke Spanish. Christi stated that she grew up bilingual and understood the conversations. She said guests talked about her without realizing she could follow what they said.

Party conversations shift after the date reveals her background

Christi said she felt uncomfortable as people discussed her. She recalled hearing women nearby asking who the girl was that the man had brought and commenting that they did not know he was into white women. She said she stayed quiet and did not react at first. According to her, the man spent a long time talking with his friends and what she described as extended family while she observed.

She stated that after about an hour and a half to two hours she found him in the kitchen. Christi said he then told the group that she was Puerto Rican, had studied international relations, minored in Spanish, was fluent, spoke it at home with her family, and that her sister was married into a Dominican family. She explained that the whole vibe switched once people realized the woman they had been discussing understood Spanish.

Christi said the man noticed she was uncomfortable and asked if she wanted to leave. She agreed. According to her account, he suggested going to his place to listen to music and put on a record because he knew she liked vinyls. She stated that on the way back he received a phone call he said was from his best friend. He told her the friend and his girlfriend had just broken up and asked if they could stop by the friend’s place quickly. She said yes.

Christi described what happened next at the apartment. She said it turned into what she called a rug deal. According to her, the man she was on the date with sold snow to the other person. She stated that the two men then used it for about an hour. They asked her multiple times if she wanted to join. She declined. Christi explained that her father is a police officer and that she is very straight-edge. Awkward social dynamics can quickly sour an evening, as when a first date implodes in a Virginia restaurant after a server reveals the man is married.

She said she felt stuck because her car was still at the man’s apartment. According to her, the friend’s place was only about five minutes away. When they returned, she said he asked if she wanted to stay the night. She said absolutely not and told him she had to get home to feed her pets. Christi stated that she went home and immediately blocked his number. She later said of the night, “That was crazy.”

In the video, Christi noted that she still does not know if the caller was truly the man’s best friend. She described the overall experience as one of her worst dates and said she has more stories to share in the future. Bizarre dating experiences in the state have included one woman who says a man brought out dangerous items and stranded her.

Viewers responded to the video with comments that included: “Girl turn this into a series !!!!”, “His loss! You rock!”, “all you had to say was charlotte and i knew this story was about to be atrocious”, and “That’s funny when he told them that you were Puerto Rican, Spanish ladies and they got quiet.”
