‘One of the craziest things I’ve ever experienced’: Florida couple says a woman showed up with a knife, bat, and shovel at their front door

She apparently speaks Spanish.

A couple in Florida said they were left shaken after a woman reportedly showed up at their front door carrying a large knife, a shovel, and a baseball bat. According to a Reddit post shared by user Chance-Life-3039, the woman left the knife and bat behind before walking away with the shovel.

The video was posted in the subreddit r/Weird and shows the woman standing at the couple’s door holding all three items. OP said the footage came from his home security camera and that he had no idea who the woman was.

“This is one of the craziest things I’ve ever experienced,” OP wrote. He said he and his wife go to bed early because of their work schedules, and that his wife was the one who discovered the items when she was leaving for her shift.

Couple says they called police after reviewing security footage

The poster said his wife screamed when she saw a baseball bat and a knife sitting outside their door. The couple then checked their security camera and said they called the police soon after. “We checked our cameras and pretty much immediately called the cops. No idea who this person is,” he wrote.

Not everyone who saw the video believed the couple’s account. According to the post and its comment section, several Reddit users accused the poster of sharing an AI-generated clip or a staged recording. Others appeared to take the claim seriously and said they were concerned for the couple’s safety.

In response to the doubts, Chance-Life-3039 later posted what he described as a screenshot of police at his home, writing in the comments, “Here you go, hope that’s proof enough for you.” It is not clear from the post whether the police identified the woman or determined any connection between her and the couple. Strangers showing up unannounced has unsettled other homeowners too, as in an earlier case involving a neighbor’s escalating behavior that one family said they’d been warned about before moving in.

Many commenters speculated about why the woman may have approached the home with the weapons. Some suggested she could have been sleepwalking or experiencing a mental health crisis, though these remain unconfirmed theories from Reddit users rather than statements from the couple or law enforcement. One user wrote, “Strange posture, pajamas, blank expression. This resembles sleep walking behavior. I saw my step-brother do it a few times.”

Other commenters raised similar possibilities. One person pointed out that the woman appeared to be wearing pajamas and had what looked like wet or unwashed hair, and questioned whether she may have mistaken the home for a neighbor’s address while apparently trying to return borrowed items.

“There COULD be an innocent explanation… I mean, she seems extremely calm if she was about to commit a crime,” the user wrote.

Another commenter focused on the unusual mix of items the woman was carrying, writing, “She looks very young. The wet hair and PJ’s seem like she’s ready for bed… But why a kitchen knife, bat, and shovel?”

A separate user suggested a possible medical explanation, writing, “Ambien causes sleepwalking quite often too,” referencing a sleep medication sometimes associated with unusual nighttime behavior. Confrontations between neighbors can escalate quickly, as one man did when he blamed a woman for a parking ticket he received.

Toward the end of the video, the poster said the woman could be heard saying “ayy dios,” which he said translates to “oh god.” Based on this detail, he suggested in the post that the woman may have been of Hispanic background.

The poster did not report any further updates on whether police were able to identify the woman or determine her reason for allegedly leaving the weapons at the home. The post and accompanying video drew a large number of reactions on Reddit, with users offering a range of theories about what may have happened.
